Can you get any decent 42" for that?
I like the look of that http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=PANA-TH37PX80
But I always thought Plasma were not as good as LCD's? Is that right?
I would rather have a slightly smaller tv than getting a tv where the picture is not as good.
For larger tvs, Plasmas are (for now) king. The panasonic will beat just about anything else in its price range. Though the sonys a good tv if thats what you want.
LCDs are cheaper to run but are not too good at movement or 'dark scenes' (As they have a constant backlight in operation)
Plasmas do suffer from 'screen burn' but IF it did, it would clear in time as the WHOLE screen 'burns in' (Takes about 6 months) and you would end up with a generally much better picture than any LCD at the price:idea:0 -
My brother-in-law bought a whopping 40" Sony plasma, and I think he was disheartened when watching the TV about 8ft away and saw artefacts on the picture which was coming from a Virgin Media box without HD.
Your bro in law would probably benefit from plugging through a mains conditioner ~

I very much doubt that will make any difference to a TV with a picture from a digital source. Maybe if he was getting it from a TV aerial.Your bro in law would probably benefit from plugging through a mains conditioner ~

If data is corrupted with a digital signal, the picture might just skip, or become abnormally pixellated - like you would see with a sky box in bad weather.Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.0 -

As you wish
My conditioner (not that one) made a difference to my virgin media box, as did the twisted pair mains cable I fitted to it:idea:0 -
We will be watching the TV through Sky. At the mo we have a sky plus box & I cannot see us getting a hd one anytime soon, i think it costs £10 a month through sky as well!
Now im starting to question whethere there is even any point in getting a hd tv!!??0 -
Basmic / Alienrik
I am also going to change my monster size 32 inch CRT Sony at Xmas.
I was wondering what your top three manufacturers were for a 42 inch / 46 inch plasma.
I have seen several Samsung flat screen TV's in various addresses I have visited recently and must admit they do look good. However picture quality is what I want.
Will be going to Richer Sounds (unless something else exceptional turns up) as there customer service and guarantee is unbeatable.
Thanks0 -

You really do need a PLASMA at that size. if you want the VERY best, go for a Pioneer
Panasonic are the next best.
Samsungs are pretty good, but they have all sorts of software 'gimicks' switched on by default~ switch off all the extra 'c*ap' if you buy one. In the shop all the EXTRAs will almost certainly be switched ON. It makes it look good INITIALLY ~ but at the expense of REAL picture detail.:idea:0 -

right, ive narrowed a few things down, definitely want a 37" lcd tv &
i reckon my budget is probably no more than £600.
Looks like these are the makes that are round about this price on various sites-
LG
Samsung
Toshiba
Philips
Would you avoid in particular any of these?0
