B&Q Compensation?

Has anyone ever had any compensation from B&Q?
I sent a letter of complaint to head office and they passed it back to store.
To cut a very very long story as short as possible, B&Q have messed me around for a month, we ordered paving blocks on the 30th June, paid for them and was told they will be delivered on 2nd July, My brother in law was due to vist for annual holiday for a week on 23rd July to lay my driveway, free of charge.
Well after about 15-20 phonecalls made to them as they never called me even when told they would and speaking to roughly 7 members of staff and 2 managers, all telling me different things, i.e where the blocks were, when they were due in store, and being given 4 different delivery dates, I finally got them delivered on 30th July! 4 weeks after ordering.
My brother in law had by this time returned to Scotland and I had to pay £680 to have my drive laid.
After phoning this morning again as they promised to call me at 10am and of course didn't, I called them, spoke to the manager and he asked me what I wanted as they do not offer compensation? Told him I expected to get offered something due to all the inconvience caused and the £680 I had to pay due to their mistakes, he said he will call me back after 4pm this afternoon, it's now 4.45 and not heard anything, somehow don't think I will.
My question is has anyone ever had compensation from them and do you think I should get something? I have been told so many lies from the staff over the 4 weeks in July and still they seem to be covering for one another.
There is a lot more that took place i.e phonecalls, broken blocks that they could not tell me how to return etc. etc the list goes on.
I feel worn out with it all, is it worth me persuing?
Sorry it's a bit long but I am so angry.

I don't think you will get the £680 some how, you might get £50 to cover the calls etc, but this might be in gift vouchers.
You could have waited until your BIL was available to lay them, you chose to pay to have the drive laid, therefore that is down to you.
Why didn't you cancel and get them from somewhere else?0 -

I didn't cancel because they gave me delivery dates of 2nd july,16th july, 21st july, 24th july, my BIL was down from 23rd july for a week so I believed them that they would be here on time.
I don't expect £680 but I do expect something, manager told me this morning they don't give compensation!
BIL in scotland I'm in Devon.0 -
B & Q are alright if you don't care when you get something. If you use the stores and just buy things they stock then you're fine.
If you want to order something or heaven forbid want them to deliver something and you're on a tight timeline with jobs involving hard to track down people, like plumbers then FORGET IT!
They don't care how much they inconvenience people. I've picked up enough from friends' experiences to never ever order from B & Q.

In short, you won't get £680 or anything like that (not B & Q's fault you had to pay to get it laid) but as uktyler said, if you press them, they may give you gift vouchers to the tune of the cost of calls/goodwill0

Personally I'd never go ahead and organise labour without already having the stuff delivered!
You only allowed 3 weeks from ordering to when your free labour was there, which is actually quite a small time frame. It's not B&Qs fault you went ahead and booked the labour before getting the materials delivered.
What you should have done is cancelled the B&Q order, then tried again say next year, and buy from elsewhere!
Keep bothering them and they might give you £50 in vouchers as compensation for the time you've had to spend calling them.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

Am I not supposed to orginise labour when I was given the 1st delivery date of 2nd July? knowing that my BIL was coming to visit from Scotland on a family holiday on 23rd July leaving plenty of time. They kept assuring me that I would have delivery befoore 23rd, what am I supposed to do? thay are a huge company who should be able to do deliver an order on time and not keep me hanging on with lies. I certainly do not think it's my fault if a company cannot deliver on time.0 -
It is worth googling companies before you order anything important. When our friends had their B & Q kitchen nightmare I googled them and found out that there were hundreds of people who had had problems with late deliveries, broken equipment, workers who did not arrive on time.
I always put in the firm's name followed by the word problems and it always throws up a multitude of useful info.
It is really annoying but B & Q really do not care whether people get their order on time and are not worried at all if you are inconvenienced by their failure to deliver as promised.0 -
I always find local building supplies companies are much more competitively priced and have a better range than B&Q. And an infinitely better service too.
Unlucky, OP, and I'd be annoyed too. But I think you're on to a loser.0 -
i work for B&Q and i wouldn't go by the delivery date dates.
if your paving blocks were in stock i'd have picked them your self.
B&Q is feeling the pinch and are not replacing staff, so the ones thay have are run off their feet.
i'd keep it up but it's be gift vouchers. sorry0 -
We had an argument with B&Q after the messing about we had regarding our kitchen & we got £150 refunded in cash from B&Q Guildford.
We sent letters, made a record of EVERY phone call, with names of people we spoke to, times, dates etc.
Good luck!
