If you dont pay then would you not be asked to pay it if you were to return to italy,0

This is Italy we are talking about, they read the rule book and then throw it away.........that's why I love it so much.
You can always try ignoring it and run the risk of worse. Pays your money and takes a chance really.0 -
I'm now worried!!! We were in Pisa in May as well - haven't had anything yet, but now will not be surprised as we got totally lost trying to find car parking. Any idea on which road this 'violation' took place?0

Were you hiring a car on CC? Or driving your own car? If the former you can start to worry, if the latter nothing to worry about except some unenforceable letters demanding money may come to you one day.0 -
On a CC booked with Avis. I have now googled this and it would appear that it is a big problem for tourists. Oh well, I suppose we need to wait for that bill to arrive. I think I have found a map where they show the restricted areas (arghhhhhh!) - we probably drove down each one of them at least once.
It doesn't seem fair that there is nothing mentioned in the tourist guides or on the road maps that we were supplied with by Avis (as well as the one we used from our campsite).0 -
you would hope that the hirecars would be on a special list where this stuff is charged at the going rate and not a fine0

Its Italy. Nobody gives a !!!!! about traffic laws in Italy. Its crackers over there.
Personally I'd dispute it and ask the hire company to send proof.0 -

From the link in post #18:Please read this entire page carefully. The consensus is that a car hire company will not pay your fine. BE SURE TO CONFIRM THIS BY SPEAKING TO A PROPERLY INFORMED PERSON AT THE COMPANY YOU USED. If you are unable or unwilling to apply any of the procedures described on this page to have your fine cancelled, consider (carefully) not responding and not paying. Your action or lack of action might take account of whether or not you live in the EU and how much you fear a negative credit rating in the USA. The author of this page has seen no evidence to date that true debt collection agencies are being used to collect these fines.
There is unlikely to be any communication between municipal traffic authorities and the national immigration service. Next time you visit Italy, you can't be arrested at an airport for not paying a traffic fine. Come back to Italy soon - we like having you here. Not even wrong0
