And when they say we're not going to loose a penny, I don't think I'm unreasonable to think that is going to include interest payments too

Unless I've misunderstood, I'm pretty certain that we'll lose interest that would have been earned between the time the bank finally dies and when compensation is actually received (which I imagine will be several months).

I just tried to log in to my icesave a/c to print out a statement in readiness for the forthcoming FSCS claim and got a message saying it had been locked for security reasons. It gave me the option of changing my password - do I need to do this to log in or is there some other problem?

Didn't want to touch it, in case I triggered some booby trap that would automatically vaporize my a/c and have the feds abseiling through my windows

Treasury announcement on Icesave (8 October 2008)

HM Treasury confirmed this morning that if, as expected, Landsbanki is soon declared in default, the Government will make sure that no retail depositor will lose any money as a result of the closure of Icesave.
The Treasury have also confirmed that arrangements are being put in place to ensure that all ISA customers of Icesave will continue to benefit from the tax free status of their accounts.
FSCS is working closely with HM Treasury, the FSA and the Icelandic compensation scheme on arrangements to get people their money back.
Please watch this page for further updates.

Now if I don't get interest for a few month, I'm loosing money as a result of the closeure of Icesave

Just been on to Icesave with reference the return of funds to a closed account.

The money is there, but the accounts are showing a code for a closed account, that is why we can't access the accounts.
The IT guys are working to remove the codes on the accounts so they can be reinstated as quickly as possible, but due to the vast amount of people that withdrew funds and closed accounts this will take some time.

Hi, think we have all had the same problems logging in,

If you are still able to access your account but receive this message "The information you have supplied is incorrect"

All you need to do is reset the password.

Enter the User Id & then click reset, it will give you a 5 letter code and almost straight away email you with a second 5 letter code.
Back on the login page enter your user ID and then the 10 letter code, this puts you into your login details where you choose a new password and you are th back into your account.

We both had to do this last night, and can once again view our accounts. ;)

I agree, I guess it depends on how you interpret that treasury statement.

Nope, but thanks anyway. I tried to reset my password and got the message saying my a/c had been locked and to contact them by phone. Currently on hold, but don't know how long I'm prepared to endure the muzak & recorded apologies
  • Hi

My first post! I have been following this thread with interest and I am pleased to hear everyone will ultimately get their money back.

But a couple of points that so far I don't think have been mentioned (have not read all 40 odd pages so may be wrong)

Whats all the talk about an ING rescue .. Is this likely to happen?

Secondly anyone who has been less than truthful with the revenue about their investments could now find that they (The Revenue) will have a complete database of interest received!
