Alistair Darling has made his statement, saying that no Icesave customer will loose any money.

  • The FSCS is the place to look as this is where we will all need to go to claim our money back, once they have agreed on the process we will all need to complete and submit a claim form and wait.

They have just posted an update on the situation, it is good to see it in black and white on the official site, I am now happy my money will be returned.

  • christine666 please do not worry. Your money will turn up. Everything is recorded whether it’s in the account or in mid transfer.

I agree entirely with jb5. Also would people stop coming on here and complaining that the government are going to bail out the ice savers, if the shoe was on the other foot you would not be complaining. Anyway, either way there is nothing you can do about it, no one is listening, you have to trust your elected government to control the situation. Wait for some solid facts before making a statement which holds no solid foundations!?! You people are your own worst enemies. If you all run on your banks, then they will have problems, so stay put and instil some confidence back into the system. We will all be better off for it, instead of running scared every time some idiot on here with no professional experience makes a random statement.
  • Can anyone HELP please - I'm another worried ICESAVE saver . When I heard about Icesave's trouble on Monday pm I transfered my money out straight away via CHAPS. On Tuesday (7th) morning I checked my Icesave account and the money seemed to have been processed and the balance reflected this. I then heard about it being nationalised and that the website stopping all deposits and withdrawals. Will the transfer still go through? I checked my bankaccount this morning to see if the money has been received but it still hasn't arrived. Where has it gone? CHAPS transfers are supposed to be same day transfer. The money is not in my Icesave account. What can I do? I can't call anyone - none of the icesave number works. Please help. Please.

    thanks
    a very worried mum.

I did the same thing - logged on in the middle of the night on Monday, actually Tues 7th in the very early hours, and the Icesave website appeared to be functioning. I transferred my money out using CHAPS, which showed as a 'pending' transaction at that time. By the next morning, it showed as processed, and the cash and CHAPS payment had been taken from the account, but it didn't show up in my current account here.

I did phone this morning and managed to get through to one of the poor people waiting to know if they've still got jobs, and the freeze on the movements started before the freeze on the web site! I was assured that my (virtual) cash hasn't disappeared into the ether, but 'is held in' limbo, frozen, and will be replaced into the Icesave account, to meet the same fate or rescue as if I hadn't tried to move it.

As it's all I have left apart from my pension and the amount guaranteed by the Icelandic governmemt is most of it, I was relieved to hear Alistair Darling's statement this morning.
  • Well well, one lot of my funds has bounced back into my Icesave account, along with the £30 CHAPS fee. The other £3000 is still wandering freely somewhere though... hmmm!
  • Thank you all. I didn't sleep a wink last night worrying about this.

  • I just spoke to Icesave and they confirmed that any transactions initiated after sunday will not go through. I'm one of the people who did a BACS transfer on Monday and it looked like my transfer had gone through. However Icesave tell me the money is back in my account and that it's not being reflected in the web portal we see. The chap I spoke to said that he would do a refresh on my account so that I could see it was back in there.

To be honest the prospect of having to get my money of the FSCS isn't that appealing, but I'm still feeling giddy that I transferred £94K from my Icesave, on a whim on the 1st of October. I just cant imagine how some people with similar amounts still left in Icesave must feel.

I'm very cross about all the lies that seem to have been told by Icesave and Iceland. On the Icesave homepage it went on to stress how low risk peoples savings were, how much was capitalised and how recent market condiditions didn't affect it. The Icelandic goverment then said they would pay up when really they appear to have frozen our accounts and plundered the money for themselves. I'm furious about thier behaviour and I'd like to see the UK government sailing several large ships over there and hoisting a large union jack, taking it down only when we've got our money, and the cost of recovering it back.

So what do we do now, wait until it settles and just withdraw? or will there be a procedure to follow?
