So what have we learned....
Not very much just that the many that have criticised helping fellow man here when in need, is a very sad snapshot of the society we live in.0 -
Just wait and see.....give it a bit of time.0

P.S. christine666, I've just logged onto the Icesave website, and my summary was showing the balance as it was before the (failed) withdrawal - but then the website kicked me off. Too busy, I guess.0

Has anyone successfully logged on to Isesave online today? I can't get on the site to print my account details off, perhaps its just busy?0

I have just signed up after reading this thread for some days. I have some money in Icesave but I'm optimistic now that I'll get that back.
Here are some thoughts:
1) As far as I've seen on several sources, the overall amount of money from UK savers in Icesave is £4bn. So this is the sum to talk about. (Certainly not 300,000 times 50,000...)
2) The first source to recover this money should quite certainly neither be the UK taxpayer, nor the Icelandic scheme, but Landsbanki's assets. Quite a bit of that is in the UK and therefore the Icelandic government can't just steal it. Therefore, I think that actually a substantial amount of those 4bn has not to be paid by UK or Iceland compensation schemes.
3) The second source to recover money is certainly whatever can be squeezed out of Iceland. I'm not too optimistic on this one but there may be the odd million after negotiations with the UK/scandinavia/EU. They cannot just steal the money; Iceland cannot make themselves thieves in front of everybody else. However, of course, they can't pay money that they don't have.
4) So the UK scheme and UK taxpayers may have to pay something but probably much less than 4bn for this.
5) As I don't have more than 50k in Icesave, I may sound a bit nasty here and I think it's OK what A. Darling decided but let's say I am surprised that they promise to pay back more than 50k because this was not officially secured before (actually most people here put money into Icesave when it was still 35k). This means that there may actually be more security for Icesave savers than for those in UK banks at the moment. That sounds a bit too good to be true. Let's hope that there is so much money in Landsbanki that this doesn't cost the taxpayer lots. Because otherwise it may be hugely unpopular with people who don;t have their money in Icesave. Actually I thought that Ireland and other countries put themselves at risk quite a bit by guaranteeing unlimited savings.0 -

Was OK earlier, but not just now. Lunchtime effect?
In same position as many others although FYI I CHAPS out some on Friday night (after 5) & according to the rules nothing would happen until Monday 6th. It did & it all reached my nominated account. Says 'processed' on my icesave statment. Monday lunctime (so after 11am deadline) I CHAPs rest. Stament say processed on Tues 7th & balance reflects this. But that has NOT reached my designated account.
This worries me. Where is it-CHAPs is supposed to be real time?
Incidentally whilst Barclays branch staff were very helpful they simply said refer to issuer & gave me no further advice. I've learnt more online & on here & the fool site. Considering I'm giving Barclay's quite a lot of money (to me) I'm not too impressed with them.need to go from  to :dance:0
