Getting ready for pregnancy

  • I would join the TTC (Trying to Conceive) forum. Lots of good advice there and all very supportive ladies - I should now, now 8 weeks pregnant!

    Enjoy TTC!
Proud mother of twin boys - double the trouble and twice the pleasure! :T
  • Thank you for all your advice.

Picking up on some of the things you said.

We don't really have debt apart from our mortgage, which we are busily overpaying as we speak, as we're hoping for me to stay home after the birth. I am going to set up a account to save a monthly amount for the baby, too.

I am going to look into changing our internet and power suppliers as I haven't done so for 2 years!
    :eek::eek:

And, I'll be stocking up on folic acid this week!

Me and OH are also in our late 20s and got married 6 weeks ago after 8 years together. We decided to try for a baby straight away. I have been on the pill for 12 years without a break so thought it would take me a whil to get pregnant. I stopped taking the pill last month. This month I have missed my period (due last friday) and today I have done 7 (!!) pregancy tests and found out I am pregnant!! (I even drove back to waitrose after test number 5 to get some digital ones incase the little lines on the test were a figment of my imagination)

This will be our first baby and we are sooooo excited.

Havent told anyone yet as I know its early days.

I used the fertilityfriend website to check my fertile days too. Good luck for all those trying. xxxxx

    Fabulous news! Congratulations.
  • Well done, Mookiandco. Take a sample to your GP to test – in a couple of weeks if you think it's too early – it's free!

While I am happy to share your joy of getting pregnant - could we please this thread for issues concerning the preparation to get pregnant, not the celebration of BFPs? There are a few other threads where you could share your news - ttc, for example, or pregnancy thread.

Most GP's won't perform tests these days unless you have missed a period and are not getting a positive yourself as over the counter tests are as effective as the ones they use. Also it will save the NHS performing a test that isn't really necessary (saving bit of money).

Okay, let's get back on topic.

Let's start a list of things we should all do in preperation...
    I'll start..

    Stop smoking (if you do)...
Cut right back / stop drinking...
    Get your 5 a day...
    start taking Folic Acid..

    who's next? :D
