Not a thing gets ironed in this house, aside from DH work shirts and trouser which he irons on a sunday night ready for the week...
That and during summer my linen trousers if I wanted them....
Everything dries on an airer and then gets folded and put away...Wealth is not measured by currency0 -

You're not odd. Ironing means I can sit down and watch some Dallas dvd's during the day without feeling guilty.
As for a safe age for ironing. I was about 14yo when I started to iron properly. I remember when I was about 10, I went to iron a plastic carrier bag to see what would happen. My mum's iron was ruined.

I used to iron for my pocket money when i lived at home and there were five kids and 2 adults..i have ironed since i was about 10 years old. My brothers were all cadets and wanted smart uniforms, so they also ironed from a young age..I think it depends on how they are shown to iron. In all honesty though some of the irons were a bit smaller than some about today and i remember my mum's best iron was an old one which plugged into the light socket..it was given to her by her mum and lasted for years.
I also find ironing relaxing..don't know why, but i always do..and i made a fortune ironing neighbours stuff as well.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

I don't iron. I don't have a tumble drier either. Clothes go from washing machine to line or airer then folded and put away. They get a good shake while still wet.
I have a 30 minute drive to work every morning so any creases have dropped out by the time I get there. I have one of those jumpers with a shirt collar and I 'iron' the collar with my ghds if it's looking particularly creased.
If I'm going out I might iron the top if it's not clingy. If it is, body heat gets rid of creases really quickly
My ex MIL used to iron everything. Not whole towels but she got rid of peg marks. Also used to iron socks and knickers and my girls used to go mental as it melted the elastic and made them itchy. :rotfl:0 -

Just goes to show how different people are this is my idea of hell, not only to have to do ironing, but on my own as well!!!I want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

My OH does any ironing I want doing (approx 3 items a year). In an emergency 5 mins in the drier will get most creases out. I know it would be quicker and cheaper to iron, but I'm dreadful at it- things look more creased once I've ironed them than they did before:o
My real bugbear though is that I keep my tumble drier for emergencies only (as in 10 minutes before work and nothing is dry) but my lodger thinks it's essential to tumble dry everything! I'm on a night shift tonight and I can just visualise him sitting up all night gleefully tumbling sheets and towels
If I knew how to wire a plugthen I'd cut it off every time I left the house.
