We don't iron here either except evening suits (about twice a year) and shirts (maybe once a month). No need to when everything goes in the drierNo longer using this account for new posts from 20130

I don't iron. My mum does it all for me. No I don't live at home either, I'm a married mother of two but she claims to find ironing relaxing.
She irons EVERYTHING, bedding, towels, undies, tea towels the lot.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000 -

Ahhh... the vexed issue of ironing!
I used to iron most things, although never tea towels, sheets, knickers etc  My mother constantly told me I was wasting time, but cursory glances in her direction, (very crumpled most of the time!) told me that I wasn't!!!
However, all that changed when... one day DD3 split something all over me, just as we were going out of the door on the school run. I didn't have any thing ironed to change into, and no time to iron anything. I just grabbed a pair of incredibly creased chino type trousers out of the basket and slung them on. I was staggered when I got home to discover that most of the creases had dropped out.
So from then on, I made sure I was far more careful about folding and hanging. Consequently I do very very little ironing, usually doing about 10 items once in about 2/3 months.
My DH is still adamant about ironing though! He irons all his shirts/trousers/tshirts etc, but also the children's uniforms. I don't iron their uniforms, and I can honestly say that there's no difference in how they look when they trot off to school, ironed or not!
I would say that I think there are some things that still have to be ironed, those things are few and far between, and I no longer have an ironing mountain, which was always the case in my house.MMSSB Club Founder Member

Mum irons everything, but when she goes away I hang up the washing on hangers against radiators and on airers, hardly needs ironing at all. but she won't do that, says the house looks like a laundry.........
towels go in the dryer, most of my stuff - my cheap clothes would shrink apparently so they go on the airers.
xxxNevertheless she persisted.0 -
Well I don't have a drier so that is doing my bit for the planet
Doesn't matter how well I shake clothes out when you have to have washing drying on an airer for days (in winter when it takes 2 days to dry) there are always creases/lines which have to be ironed out. I would love to give up ironing but there is no way possible unless someone wants to buy me a bigger house and a tumble drier

I just thought as the thread was titled how to save money and use less electricity that the fact this is only doable if using a drier is crazy. Drying all my laundry in a drier is always going to use up much more electricity than my iron does!
PS - I am not having a go at anyone who needs or wants to use a drier!
I agree tumble drier will use SOOOOOOO much more electricity than an iron. Although ironing is boring and takes up valuable time which could be spent working/earning money?I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

I'm with the non-ironers!
I never iron anything - just careful drying seems to do the trick. If OH needs a shirt ironing, he does it himself!
I have a tumbler but it get used very rarely - 6 times a year, something like that.SOA = Statement of Affairs (to find a SOA Calculator, google 'make sense of cards' & click on calculators tab > Statement of Affairs)0 -
We iron nothing and don't look all creased. Neither do we have a tumble drier, we either line dry (whenever possible) or put it on airers, we do make sure we give everything a good shake when we remove it from the WM. We also make sure not to overload the WM otherwise everything comes out extremly creased.
My mum was surprised to learn recently that we own an iron and ironing board, used mainly for craft projects as aposed to a laudry mountain.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

I don't do ironing. There are really only ever rare occassions when something like a smart top or suit for an outing need ironing. Most of the time, noone is going to bat an eyelid at any creases, except perhaps people with ocd over ironing! (e.g. parents in law. who do several washes a day and wonder why they have to buy a new washing machine every other year.)0
