It wasn't the few hundred people reading the forums that caused the run it was more the thousands who watched all the warnings on the news late last week.
Panic feeds panic. It all contributes.

    Ok fair play.

I was branded scaremongering! run in underpants shouting doom & gloom! etc. Gave me so much grief and got me stressed. For what? All I was trying to do is raise awareness! and asked what if! Because of some silly and stupid people in this thread, lots of them got caught out when icesave froze their accounts. I'm sure their savings are safe and they will get it back but to go through that stress is not good at all.

Whoever talked bulls**t in this thread, have you got the ba**s to leave your savings in KE and go through the stress? Some of them are absolutely silly!

Anyway I personally feel KE could be next unless EU bail them out because Iceland as a whole country cannot manage all the debt. There is no money left only debt is left. I'm still waiting for the money to come through from KE and I'm worried because i dont want to go through FSA scheme to get my money back because it could take months to get my money back as more banks get into trouble.

Ok you have saved the world. Now time for you to move on. bi

Thanks for the novation information - I actually posted my other post shortly after yours sorry, that is very worrying actually. I'd of left my money in there if it was 100% guaranteed but now I'm not too sure.

Several people seem to have got this upside down. Situation was bad, but is now good. Novation clause no longer exists = KE has exactly the same protection as UK institutions (and will continue to have), and is better than icesave.

I wondered how long it would be before some crank claimed the failure of Landsbanki was all the fault of this tiny forum - an internet backwater in the great scheme of things!

Landsbanki's failure had nothing, of course, to do with the total collapse of the krona, a disaster engineered by vulture capitalists like George Soros, who now get to feast on the carcass of Iceland....

    Of course not!

  • Not bothered at all. As long as ING honor my fixed term interest rate (7.15%) then im happy. I will probably keep my normal savings account with ING if they have a decent interest rate, and offer FULL faster payments in the near future (currently ING only offer faster payments in to the account.).

Maybe there should be a separate thread elsewhere on MSE headed:
    IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT

Contributors to the IAYF thread can post the following:

    1) How Martin Lewis is personally to blame for the difficulties IceSave depositors faced when they put money into an outfit which wasn't 100% covered by standard FSCS protection (and for which reason, many other savers chose to steer clear)

    2) How MSErs caused Kaupthing Edge's UK subsidiary to crash and burn because they, um, raised doubts about certain aspects affecting compensation coverage

Contributors are also free to complain that everyone apart from them is wrong about everything / is responsible for everything.

I think that should just about do it, really.

    ;)
