Bradford and Bingley have now updated their interest rates page to include the no-longer-available Internet Saver (Issue 3) account. The rate remains at 6.51% gross. I wonder for how long though...

On the Saver page it says "Previous - 6.51%" "AER -6.01%"
Does that mean they have decreased the interest, should i move my savings to another account?
  • I opened one of these accounts in advance of when ING pull the plug on the interest rate on my Kaupthing Edge account. The B&B money transfer system is absolutely B******S! I wanted account and sort code numbers so I could do it from my bank and make references that show up on my statement - very important if you're using both accounts for Stoozing activities. Realising that there would be absolutely no way of easily reconcilling bank statements with credit card transactions and savings account payments, I've decided to close my B&B account. I can't live with that kind of 'in the dark' nonsense where I can't add notes for my own information.

And what was the reason for B&B wanting savers to transfer money their unique way? Security apparently. Go figure....

B&B do indeed appear to have substantially dropped their rates on a large number of their accounts, including reducing the Internet Saver (Issue 3) account rate from 6.51% to 6.01%. I'm not particularly surprised (see my post above!).

As to whether you should move your money, B&B are offering 6.10% on their eSavings (Issue 6) account (including a 1% bonus for 12 months, for balances over £1000). Personally, I'm going to stick with my Internet Saver (Issue 3) as I don't think it's worth the hassle of moving for 0.09% more interest.

Of course, you could always move your money to another institution, but my prediction is that everyone will be slashing their rates pretty soon - so you may move your money elsewhere, only to find they drop their rates days later. Personally, I could do without that frustration, so will stay put.

    Hope this helps.

I absolutely agree with that. I'm going to leave my money where it is for now - we're bound to see the rates of other accounts drop shortly.
