Well I had to buy a new telly last week after our old CRT broke. I went for a PAnasonic 37px80 plasma which is the smaller version of the one aliEnRIK mentioned an it is superb. The SD picture is better than any LCD I've seen and just 10 minutes ago Virgin swapped out my old V+ which had a duff HDMI port so I now have HD and that's stunning. Also the Panasonics are 100hz if that is of concern to you they also accept 1080p/24fps which I believe is the latest standard used on Blu-Ray.

The other advantage is that the PX80 range are relatively cheap. They've won a lot of awards as well.

And as always do some research on https://www.avforums.com

they admitted they were wrong in the end? so did they refund the difference then?
i've never seen the point of price match from the customers point of view because if it is cheaper elsewhere then i would just go elsewhere in the first place.

The point was trying to get it at the cheaper price. After their admission they then sold it to us at the cheaper price. I completely agree with you about going elsewhere, as I'd already said in my post if it was me personally I'd have gone elsewhere. I think it's that my parents think they have better recourse going back to one of many JL stores if anything goes wrong instead of a single independant store. Not my logic by the way. Because if they don't stick to their own terms on pricematching then I don't see why they'd necessarily stick to their warranty terms either.

looks like the contrast ratio (amount of gradients between the whitest white, and the blackest black) is different on the more expensive one

i noticed that the contrast is lower on the more expensive one. shouldnt the more expensive one have the higher contrast because its the higher the the better isnt it? anyway what i suspect is there is some sort of !!!! up because look at the model numbers of the two tvs and compare every other detail. it is the same tv with two different prices isnt it?

    Yup

Looks to me like theyve made a mistake somewhere

  • I wouldn't get hung up on contrast ratio's as they're just a figure that there's no standard test for and are rigged by manufacturers to put on their features to wow people with.

When it comes to how you watch your set in your house, contrast ratio will not even be a factor.

they often make mistakes regarding the spec as well. so over the past week i have learned to just look at the manufacturers website to be sure of the correct spec.

Why is this nonsense going unchallenged? Mains conditioners dont do anything to you sound/picture quality- NO ONE in the professional recording industry/TV industry uses them. Their claims are based on PSEUDOscience, not science. All of the proper studies (double blind randomised etc) have shown NO EFFECT for mains conditioning. Mains conditioning improving your picture is impossible, literally impossible.

That WAS the original argument. That was until the facts were pulished that conditioners and braided mains cables DO in fact reduce 'mains interference' and those that have tried them have found them to work. Russ Andrews in fact showed the ABX 'blind tests. to the very same insitution that fined them for 'false advertising' as even though the ABX tests were highly in their favour, they hadnt actually measured their cables and the company went interested in their ABX findings. They have now published (freely on their website) their MEASURED findings and have PROVEN that their cables do in fact reduce RFI.

What YOU claim I really couldnt care less.............
