I`ll try to do a long story short, these guys are worse at customer service than PC World, and that`s saying something!
My PC crashed & I took it in to them. I was given 2 different prices depending on if I wanted them to retrieve files. Decided I didn`t and went for the £50 option, which included them installing McAfee Security, as listed on the worksheet I was given. Had a call to tell me that the hard drive has been corrupted by a Microsoft update, and that I`ll have to have a new one fitted. I asked how much this would be, and was told £150. I go back to collect it, and the bloke tells me not to use it until I`ve installed a security disc on it. I asked him why it hadn`t been installed as I`d asked for that. Bloke checks with manager. I was then told in no uncertain terms, by the manager, that I`m a liar and they never said they would put McAfee on for me and if I want it it`s an extra £60!! I tell the manager that it`s on the worksheet I`ve been given along with a list of everything else that was being done. He then tells me that I`ve written it on there myself to `con` them! Honestly, what a load of cr*p! We `debate` this for about 5 minutes. I tell him to forget it, I`ll pay for what`s been done and go. He stands over me and proceeds to tell me that I`m a liar again, blah blah blah. I tell him that his customer service is pretty bad & that he should be trying to hang onto new customers, especially in the current financial climate. He tells me that he doesn`t care, his company is the best and that he never wants to see me again!
If I`d been in his shoes, I would `ve offered to install the McAfee at half price to make up for the misunderstanding, rather than yelling abuse a new customer.
His attitude sucked even more when I told him I would relate my experience on here, apparently no one knows what MSE is according to him! :rotfl:
Feel better now... Should`ve known better than to use a company that can`t spell their own name correctly...

Are you asolutely sure that the £50 option included Mcafee?
It's just that on the McAfee site they are selling the security suite for £39.99 (reduced from £49.99)
Even the basic antivirus is £35.99.
It seems odd that they would offer the software and the repair for £50 when there would be so little profit in it, or am I missing something?0 -
Yes, definitely included.
I double-checked with the guy when he gave me a copy of the worksheet, and I checked again when I was rung.0 -
not to mention that since the phone call was made for a new item at a new price which the OP accepted the original contract was cancelled
As said your price is very cheap in the first place and I suspect there was some misunderstanding, either you misunderstood the job sheet or the item was a generic listing you didnt opt for
I dont for a second think any company agreed to sort your PC and install a £40 piece of software for 50 quid0 -

Since when did a corrupted Hard Drive mean that a new one was needed. A reformat, yes. A new drive? - sorry, but you've been conned. It's Windows that was corrupted not the drive.0 -

On the other hand you could have AVG Antivirus completely free with unlimited updates.0 -
AVG Anti-Virus is NOT a firewall.
McAffe Retail may be £35, but the OEM is a lot lower (i.e. Panda Anti-virus retails for £30, but the OEM copies are between £1 and £2!)
Also, installing it takes about 5 minutes of actual work...
HDD for £150? They take between 5-10 minutes to fit and cost about £30 - £40...Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
I still wonder why people pay for virus killers and firewalls when there are great free ones about. I run Zone Alarm (firewall) and Avira AntriVir Personal. Combine that with Firefox as your web-browser and i hard ever have anything happen to my PC.0

That depends on what size HD you get and any work in reinstalling the OS. Does seem steep though.
It's difficult to tell what's gone on here cos the OP seems to have given a very confused account of things. I suspect alot has been lost in translation between what they've told the OP & what's been posted.
9/10 hard drives are corrupted by the amount of crap installed by the user or inadvertantly installed due to lack of Av / firewall, plus a lack of housekeeping.0 -

How is my account of what happened `confused`?
I`ve recounted what I was told, what happened and why I wouldn`t recommend this company. It`s not just the fact that I appear to have been taken advantage of, but the way in which I was spoken to by the manager.
Thanks to everyone else for your constructive advice and comments...0
