Did you get your original hard drive back with your computer or did they keep it.

They gave me what they said was my old hard drive, but to be honest, I wouldn`t know if it was or not.

I went to a company who I thought I could trust, and it seems for the work they did and the hardware they replaced, I could`ve done it myself cheaper.

you should have asked for the old hard drive back, you didn't need a new one, just the old one re-formating.

I paid under 500 quid for a dell with that spec more than 2 years ago! and prices haven't gone up since then (Ok, the graphics card was a 7300, but the rest was the same)!

A microsoft update corrupted the OP's hard drive, so he needed a new drive. That's fraud! Seriously consider reporting them to trading standards.

I have to agree with most of the posts on here, some PC shops prey on lack of technical knowledge to bolster their coffers. I disagree with this tactic as it tars the profession.

If you were offered McAfee for the £50 price then this is resonable if they are a McAfee OEM seller (yes it is available).

£150 for a new HDD even in 2008 is over priced unless it was massive in capacity and was installed by Bill G himself.

I would advise anyone who has a computer problem to treat it like any other bit of work that you pay for, get a quote, get another and then get a second opinion. There are some cowboys out there.

    And those prices - lol
