Beware! GAME no longer issue refunds

The reason for Game's policy is down to the fact that the PC games are not the same as console games. The PC game can be opened, copied, the serial code noted down and the game returned. Console games can't. You install a PC game, whilst you just run a console game. Now if Game were to allow refunds, then a LOT of people would copy the game and return it using the serial to get past the security on the game.
I agree with what shopbot said in his post about abusive customers. When I explain the policies of the store where I work to customers, I am usually quizzed about certain points but generally people can see why the policies are in place. Every so often there is a customer who will come in already knowing what I will say and will try to shout their way to a refund.Boo!0 -
So keep the GAME game, and return the Play.com game
And never shop in Game again0 -

There are so many simple ways to avoid this that I doubt this is the reason.0 -
Great admittance here that the OP hasn't got a clue.
Always the companies fault with people on here, isn't it? Never the individuals.
Whilst Game might not have the best prices on the high street, I know who I'd be asking if I needed advice on something. Certainly not the OP, that's for sure.0 -
You can have a reund from game within 10 days of purchase after that you only get an exchange or credit note.0

I certainly wouldn't suggest adopting an aggressive approach from the outset. However, if you're getting nowhere, and so long as what you are asking for isn't unreasonable (i.e. what you are trying to return isn't in a re-saleable condition), it doesn't hurt to try. That is certainly my experience.
It is also perfrectly possible to seal games in such a way that it is made obvious if the game has been opened. To say that people could copy it, then return it doesn't really cut it.
The shoplifting concept seems a little more plausable, but other stores seem to manage with a decent returns policy. Why should Game be any different?
At the end of the day, if you don't ask, you don't get!

You are partly correct. This is only for console games. The 10 day policy doesn't apply to PC games.Boo!0 -

I can honestly say that as soon as someone makes a 'scene' just to get something they are not entitled to then the barriers go up and I will stick to my guns for as long as it takes. If on the other hand you approach me with a more reasonable & respectful attitude then I probably will use my discretion to help you. The person who makes the scene just to get their way when they have no rights in law is probably not someone I want return. However the more honest customer who says 'look I shop here often and I've made a mistake' will get a better hearing.
It may not be immediately obvious why Game have this policy. However there are usually good reasons behind it. For example I know of prolific shoplifters who will hang around outside stores and pick up receipts that customers have dropped. They will then go into the store and steal the item on the receipt and attempt to get a refund on it. Games refund policy would prevent exactly this sort of thing.
But since I have the credit card with the same number on as the receipt I would have to have nicked the credit card as well. The games are wrapped in cellophane - cant see how it is possible to open them and reseal but then since I am not a member of the criminal classes I guess I wouldnt know.
