As I've said before, it's just cultural differences.

Things which some people are squeamish about are based on our cultural values, not because of right/wrong.

The Italians bury their dead in rented grave plots, after 25 or 30 years, depending on the payment made, they dig them up, place the remains in a box and place them elsewhere, the grave is then re-used.
When I was told this, I was horrified! to them, it's normal, they couldn't understand how we have the space to keep making new burial grounds.

Just because someone does something different to what we consider the "norm" doesn't mean we can criticise!
  • Don't forget fellas, that us Ladies use toilet paper (or not as the case may be) for both jobs.

Why don't you just stamp your feet and shake your booty!!!

Thanks for the supportive comments. I completely agree that it's all about cultural values -- and also it occurs to me that some of the most horrified posters obviously have some, er, issues where it comes to bodily functions.

Just to clear a few things up (ha ha) -- the rest of my family are still using conventional loo paper because they don't like the risk of chucking the wipes down the loo. The loo paper we buy is of course recycled :cheesy:.

I wash nappies and wipes at 60 degrees with a nappy sanitiser, which is antibacterial, and also with tea tree oil, a natural antiseptic. I've never had any problems with passing on infection in several years of having kids in cloth nappies.

As I said before -- the wipes go in a mesh inside a lidded bucket. The mesh then goes directly into the washing machine. I really don't see what's so disgusting or unhygienic about that. I do of course wash my hands thoroughly, with soap and nail brush, after any involvement with poo -- as I'd hope everyone else does.

Some people don't, though -- did you see the news item about commuters with faecal bacteria on their hands? Men were worse than women and men in the north were worst of all. Now if you want to talk about disgusting, that's it!

Only half of northern men have pooey hands -- but do you have a guilty conscience?!

My conscience is clear..... on this and everything else..... good thing really as I'd never sleep at nights! ;)

The Europeans have it right.... they have a bidet.... you don't need paper and can wash your hands at the same time :D
  • op- do you also dance round bonfires chanting and hug trees?
this is totally the most stupid thing ive heard today. recycled toilet roll (paper) is better for the enviroment and cheaper too.you can get four rolls for less than 40p.
in the modern world where we have advanced in health and hygiene this seems obsurd.
why do this when you live in a house, have cars ,holidays and prob drink bottled water is beyond me.i can understand the nappies but toilet roll???

That's perfectly true, my granny was exhumed last year and reburied in a box to take less space. I was also horrified as before my mum and aunt told me I did not know anything about this practice, but I can see the point, there is no space for burials in cemeteries in Rome (where she died and was buried) so that's what needed to happen.

Re. reusable toilet paper, I don't think it is disgusting, just a lot of palaver for something that can be done just as cheaply and environmentally (using recycled paper). But of course each to his/her own, I use washable sanitary towels and a lot of people think this is barmy - but I am ok about the palaver (it IS!) because it is only once a month and at my age not for much longer either!

No need to be rude to a fellow MSEr, and calling a post stupid is very disrespectful.

Actually I DO Chant and Hug Trees and dance around bonfires - and cast spells on rude people too! And use disposable toilet paper btw.
