And im sure the efficency shows when water, electricity and detergents are then used to clean the affected articles? Seems to me like it will use more than good, although i cant proove it.0

I used cloth nappies and wipes on my DD but I don't fancy it for myself. I don't have anything against people that want to do it though. I have a friend that does so it isn't a new idea to me.
I think when washed with cloth nappies it must be very environmentally friendly and I guess once bubs is out of nappies you could put wet ones in with your normal washing, after all no different to all those men walking around with damp patches on their underwear and then putting them in the washing machine.:rotfl: I don't think I'd put "dirty" cloths in with normal washing although you could equate them to the other marks men leave in their pants!:D0 -
Dunno if anyone has mentioned this before... Not for the squeamish!
I've switched to using reusable wipes instead of loo paper. I cut up a load of dh's old t-shirts and use those instead of loo paper. They go in a nappy bucket once used (we have a baby in cotton nappies so they go in together) and I wash them at 60 with the nappies and a nappy wash to get rid of germs.
Cheap as chips and softer than loo paper! I can honestly say I prefer it! Dh and kids won't join in, unfortunately, otherwise we'd be saving even more.
If you read the link to the other thread on this subject you will find other broadminded individuals who are on board with this idea.
It is so easy for the hard-of-thinking to slate your idea and the sad fact is that the internet brings out the worst in people as they know there is "no comeback" and thus they feel they can be as offensive as they like.
A lot of people find bodily fluids offensive,(Why?) but if they pee themselves laughing or find a skid mark on their own/spouses/kids undies do they flush them away? or bin them? or might they ( as I suspect) put them in the washer:rolleyes:
There is a lot of negativity on this site and I can't help thinking those of us who have many money saving ideas and are naturally frugal, will get fed up ( of being treated so shabbily)and think enough! let the hard-of-thinking work it out for themselves and keep our money saving ideas to ourselves!0 -
I am so sorry that your useful post has been received in such a critical manner when all you hoped to do was help and advise:mad:

For crying out loud. The VAST majority of the modern world has accepted that bog roll is a really good idea. when someone suggests something like this which, on any analysis, is unconventional, unhygeinic, ecologically and financially questionable, they ought to expect some pretty harsh comments.
Why not go the whole hog and use a nappy yourself? Think of all of the savings in time, cost, etc. Ridiculous. :rotfl:0 -

No, not "on any analysis"! It's not unhygienic -- wipes kept in lidded bin, washed with nappy fresh to remove germs.
The ecological case is pretty similar to that for cotton nappies. As I said before, manufacturing bog roll uses a lot of paper, chemicals and energy. It's bulky so it takes up a lot of space in lorries when it's being delivered. And flushing anything down the loo uses up more water.
I make a definite saving by using cloth. I buy less loo paper. I don't do the laundry any more than I would otherwise (as my baby is in cloth nappies) and the wipes themselves are made from cotton than would otherwise be going to the charity shop.
Oh, and I'm not incontinent, so I don't need to wear nappies!0 -

I've heard of TSFE -- too stupid for ebay. Should there also be TSFMSE?
Sounds hugely unhygeinic to me. Not sure if you have noticed, but the distinction to babies' nappies is that they have no choice.

Are you sure that a 60 degree wash would definitely kill any faecal bacteria? You do know of the dangers of faecal bacteria coming into contact with your lady bits? If you are going to do something like that I would for your own health at least boil the cloth you are using. A 60 degree wash wouldn't disinfect whatever you are using & you wouldn't want to end up with some kind of rot down therenothing to see here, move along...0

Too Stupid for MSE ? Looks like that includes the OP's family as she's stated they refuse to join her - presumably they're still using Andrex's finest.
If the OP can't convince her own family of the benefits she shouldn't be surprised at the horror her post has generated......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
