Rascals Nursery World, St Helens - gone bust

I don't know whether this is in the right place but I wanted to find some way of warning people about a company near me which has gone bust, leaving unfulfilled orders and lots of people out of pocket.

The company in question is Rascals Nursery World in St Helens.

We ordered a pram from Rascals 3 months ago, and paid them a £90 deposit. A month before the baby is due to be born, we heard nothing from them, so my wife rang and rang with no reply. I drove up to the shop yesterday and found the shutters down. Spoke to a helpful lady in the Florist shop a few doors down and she said they'd had lots of people coming into the store asking about Rascals - the store had been closed for several weeks and Trading Standards had been looking for the owner.

We contacted the supplier of the pram we'd ordered; they did some investigations and confirmed our suspicions that Rascals Nursery World had gone bust. Fortunately they traced our order in their system and agreed to send the pram direct to us, otherwise we'd have been left with no pram at the birth.

Luckily for us we paid the deposit on credit card so the credit card company have agreed to refund us. Thanks for that useful tip Martin!

So be warned - if you've ordered anything from Rascals Nursery World, they have gone bust and your order won't be fulfilled.

Our pram arrived today direct from supplier.

First of all contact your pram supplier as ours (BabyStyle) weren't even aware that Rascals had shut down. They made some phone calls and called us back the next day to say they'd confirmed that the company had gone bust (they wouldn't divulge how they found out). Anyway they took payment for the pram at the same price the store had quoted, and it arrived today.

We paid the deposit on credit card and did a chargeback, the credit card company are processing this now but we expect to get it back without any problem.

St Helens trading standards are obviously aware that the owners have done a runner, as they've been looking for them. But I would contact them to see what's going on as well.

Our first priority was to get the pram sorted - the missus only has 3 weeks to go, and fortunately the supplier was very understanding. If they won't dispatch direct, it's likely they will send your order to another stockist.

If you've paid by cash I'm afraid you may have little recourse, so as suggested your first port of call should probably be trading standards.

Babystyle will send the goods to yourself or another supplier at their discretion but we had to pay in full. So we're currently £90 out of pocket but of course we expect to get that back from the chargeback.
