When I lived in the States, I could not get enough of buttermilk biscuits (not our biscuits, their biscuits) and buttermilk pancakes! YUM YUM. All you need is a little maple syrup for the pancakes. Try https://www.allrecipes.com- another american recipe site.

What about drinking it? That is the old style way of using buttermilk. Its low in fat and contains all the nutrients of full cream milk. (not the fat of course) My grandmother was brought up on a farm and she still drinks a glass every day.0

I could'nt recomend anyone drinking the H/m Substute but only for a ingrdients for baking etc.
But then, I cant stand the smell of Buttermilk on its own so you may get another opinon...0 -
Last night I went to the supermarket and managed to buy a number of reduced pots of cream so I bought them for my usual buttermaking. I then decided to have a go at yoghurtmaking with the remaining buttermilk.
I heated the buttermilk until nearly boiling and then let it cool. I then added two small desertspoons of dried milk and a couple of teaspoons of bio yoghurt from Lidl.
This morning it was lovely and thick, so after chilling, I added some homemade blackberry jelly. It really was the most delicious breakfast i've ever had!
I wasnt sure about the yoghurt on its own. It was very creamy but had a teeny creamy cottage cheese aroma to it. However, im new to yoghurtmaking so this is probably normal?
So the cost was really nothing as I was buying the reduced cream for buttermaking anyway.
Definately worth a go for those people wondering what else they can make with leftover buttermilk.... and who are fed up of scones!0 -

I actually just freeze the buttermilk usually and use it in cooking, ie sauces etc. It makes a really creamy mashed potato too!
I will use it again in yoghurt though as I often have a freezer full of the stuff with all the buttermaking I do.0 -
I made butter in my Chef today using 6 tubs of OOD double cream, so I've got quite a bit of buttermilk. Can I use it for anything other than scones and pancakes?0
