Because it allows you to play MPEG4 dvds ( a newer form of compression than MPEG 2, the normal digital compression used ), that can be downloaded "free" from the internet.

I'd pay the extra and get the none D version (110) as that also writes to RAM discs - which are very good discs to use for re-writing to.

Both items cheaper at SVP: http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/drivescddvd.html
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

LG have been doing Ram recorders for years, and cheaper, nice to see Pioneer and NEC have finally joined them.
    and Cheaper still
The benefits of DVD ram is that it behaves like a hard drive, and does in domestic recorders making them equivelent to PVRs.

I have a couple of Panasonic DMR recorders, find RAM discs very useful.

Let's be honest - the review on amazon is worthless - this guys taken it back because the box says something different on it to what Amazon advertised it as. Doesn't even sound like he's tried using it.

Let's not make too much of reviews that aren't actually reviews.

  • Hi All,

I use both BigPockets and SVP to purchase my peripherals and discs, paper, jewel cases etc.

    On SVP http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acatalog/dvdrecord.html

Last two items are very good quality for the price. Also for those of you that find the DVD player/writer you want only to find it is not Region free, try this site http://www.videohelp.com/

Look under the Lists menu Left side for DVD Players or Recorders, list your model and then look at the comments by other users about your chosen player/recorder, they give great tips and advice and for DVD Players, they will list Region Hack Codes if the player has one BTW This is NOT illegal.

    DVD List http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks

All players are built multi region, it is simply the market in which each batch is sold which defines which Region the player is set to, this is soft coded into the player and is nearly always accessible through a menu entry or soft code input via the remote.

VCDHelp (http://www.videohelp.com/) has an enormous database of help for all DVD CD equipment, as well as tips and help with making your own DVD's etc, well worth a browse.

Hi, If you want to archive something recorded on the RAM disc to DVD+-R how do you do that? Do you need to use a computer with a RAM drive? Cheers.

    Hi,

    wrt RAM to DVD+-R....

Firstly is the RAM disk a fixed drive ie RAM HDD DVD recorder, if so you would need to connect this to a pc, assuming you cannot record to a writeable disc, then you would need to use a software program that would copy the image to the pc, then you could convert it to mpeg format, once converted, there are many, some free, programs that will then convert the mpeg image to DVD and write to DVD disc.

If you can record the DVD RAM to a DVDRam disc, then you'd need a DVD writer capable of reading DVDRAM discs, once again copying the image to mpeg then converting to DVD.

read this link info it'll help you find the cheapest or best method to do a conversion - http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101191

Hope this is of some help.
