Have you tried a R1 disc in the machine.
I have had Multi-region players from Amazon and several other sources in the past, every single one has had region 2 printed on the box, manual and machine, but were indeed multi-region.
Repeating myself, no multi-region player will indicate on their machine, box, nor manual that it is multi-region, if they did they wouldn't be granted the license to produce the DVD player/use the DVD logo.
Again repeating myself, Amazon have either had the machines delivered without the region being set, or they have used a hack to make it multi-region.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

For 68 quid I've just ordered one.
Lets face it, its only got to record and play the odd bit now and again, I'm not planning on building a fully equiped TV studio, with editing capabilities
Will let you know if it can do the basics - Record & Play
The way folk went on you would start to think there was something on the TV worth whatching! - Martins L's programme excluded neadless to say!
CameronAdvice is cheap! Hence their is a lot of it about!
Try not to be a victim!0 -
The cheapest DVD Recorder I can find is at Argos, £68.99 with free £5.00 voucher before 11/12/05, not a bad model either, records DVD+, plays just about anything and there are hacks available on the internet to change it to a multi region player, what more do you want for £64.00 ?0

If you already have a DVD player and are thinking of getting a dvd recorder that uses DVD+ media, check your existing dvd player can play DVD+ disks as some of them wont.0

:xmassign: What about the cheapest DVD recorder with a hard drive (for lengthy or numerous recordings whilst on hols etc. Also for those too lazy to keep inserting and removing recordable DVDs)?0

What is DivX and how important is it when buying a DVD recorder?0

DivX is a form of MPEG-4 video compression, which can be used to compress DVD quality movies to 700 MB or less, and thereby allow them to fit onto a CD. These can be played on your computer using Windows Media Player if you have the right codecs or on a DivX compatible DVD player. Another type of MPEG-4 compression is XVid. It means you could in theory put multiple movies onto a 4.7Gb DVD using MPEG-4, which means that you could save physical space as well. I believe it was developed before the widespread use of DVD writers, to enable people to store movies on CD.
I personally don't consider DivX when I'm looking at DVD players. It has no relevance to DVD recorders (unless they are suddenly capable of recording in that format, which would be very useful, as far more video could be stored on the disks).0 -
Had a look at the Amazon site and the single review is not complimentary as quoted here:- "Not Multi-Region for a start!, December 3, 2005
Reviewer: Richard Bullivant
Well i was one of the first ones to order one of these when it came onto the site and I would avoid it at all costs.
Firstly it is not Multi-Region as the title suggests but R2 only, the manual in the box also suggests that it is R2 only so where Amazon have got that it is Multi-Region is a mystery.
Secondly the Recorder uses DVD+ media, nowhere in the description does it even mention these.
I found these faults without even trying to record a DVD, needless to say I am in the process of trying to return it to Amazon (needless to say they don't seem to care about the players faults judging by the e-mail they sent me). I imagine there are more problems with it that I never got around to finding.
It may be the cheapest Recorder around but if i were you I would pay a tenner more and get something that actually works as advertised. "
I am no expert but the advice I got was ty make sure the recorder coped with DVD R/W + & -. I bought An Alba from Makro at £88 inc VAT which covers both these options and I have had no prblems.silps wrote:Amazon have an Inventive DRW2033 Multi-region DVD Recorder Silver for £67.99.
Insert From Martin
Here's a link to the DVD Recorder on Amazon*
More about the spec:
Compatible with DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-Audio, SVCD, VCD, DVCD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 and CD
MPEG-2 digital real-time encoding and decoding technology supports diverse picture quality recording modes
Intelligent preset timer recording supports recording in different modes
Multiple inputs from TV tuner, AV and S-video supports recording from CATV, disc player or video camera
Automatic TV channel scanning; simultaneous playback and record feature
PAL/NTSC recording system and output selection
By the way it's worth remembering any system that says its multi-region, means it has the ability to be multi-region, virtually all of them require you to enter a code into the remote control to change the region. This DVD recorder is multi-region capable.
For those who don't know what regions are. Each area of the world e.g Europe, americas etc. has a different regional code, its so Hollywood can lock down distribution of DVDs. Most players are single region, meaning only uk disks can be played, yet multi-region players mean you can order cheaper disks from overseas sometimes and they'll work.
PS (from martin)
If you've not yet got a copy you can always grab the Money Diet from Amazon at £3.99, meaning there'll be know delivery charge because in total you're spending over £15!)
