That surprizes me as I have never seen that before.

There is another shop called Quids in which does that all the time. They have everything for a pound except for a few lines but I have never seen it in Poundland.

I think there are a few shops like this that sell things at £1. Some of them are better than others.

in a recent trip to poundland, hubby was at the checkout paying for  1 item and took a fancy to the christmas light/decorations displayed in the window, bearing in mind the 'everything is a pound' tagline imagine his embarassement when the assistant demanded £20 for them!  He did stutter something about only £1 abandonded his purchase and scurried out of the shop!

Exactly the same thing happened to me a few weeks back. Picked up some very nice Christmas lights and was told they were actually £6 or something and even then you could only buy them if you spent over a certain amount in the shop.

Yet all over the shop there are signs that say 'don't ask the price, everything is £1'.

    It was awfully embarrassing :-[

I've been to poudland in Eastbourne today, and bought some stocking fillers. My partner is a director for a firm that makes shampoos and conditioners. They sell old or surplus stock to Poundland and Savers, so they are genuine products. I was most annoyed in the summer tho when I'd spent £20 on a playstation controller for my son to find a smaller one (which he prefers) in poudland for £1!!!!!!!

Went into Leicester's poundland on belgrave gate today. Saw some fairy lights for a fiver. It was at the front of the shop before the big sign that said everything for a £1 but you would have to have been paying attention considering they had put it in-between the two rows of tills by the doors.

The other thing that seems to pop up in poundland is some of that "As seen on TV" rubbish that you pay £29.99 + £6.99 postage on tv. And it is rubbish, I wouldn't pay a pound for some of that stuff. :o

So would you REALLY connect electrical appliances to a piece of equipment sold for £1 ?. Given that they have to make a profit, the item concerned can only be made of poor quality materials and then, you connect items to it within your house.

I wonder, were there to be a fire god forbid, and you said to your insurance company, "oh, I used a four gang appliance connector and it must have been alright because it cost me a £1 "

All electrical products sold in the UK have to meet a BS standard.

I have a great time when I visit the pound shops when I go to see my sister in Wales. I always stock up on socks (very good buy) and the storage crates are also good. I have to take the car now as I would never get home on the train with all my bargains! ;D

After fighting your way through the pile of baskets on one side and the chubby chavvies with little 'Chantelle-demi' and Jordan in their buggies (coom eeya!! naaaaah), and OAPS with shopping trollies youd be lucky to get out with a set of lights intact!
mind you I love poundland but you have to shop around, shaving foam and deodorant is cheaper over the road in Savers. ;)

Im sure I saw those in £land last week but the offer read "purchase these lights for £5 when you spend £10 instore" or words to that effect. I think they were chasing lights. ::)
  • I love poundshops, poundland etc and always get some good bargains......imagine my horror on a trip to York where they have NO poundshops!

I've been a frequent visitor to York over the past few years and there was always a big £1 shop in one of the streets near the Minster.

Haven't heard from my friends who live there that it's closed so I think you were being fibbed to!

In fact I used to love going there as where I live, Darlington, never had any shops like that, now we have two!
