Is this legal?!

I'll try to keep this as short as I can

I went for a makeover experience around 3 weeks ago and ended up buying some photo's ( I'm too embarrassed to say the actual amount I paid :o )

My sister went for the same experience last night at the same place and ended up buying some photos too but got 10 more than I paid and the guy who sold her it charged her double the cost ( I could understand it being a bit more because she was getting a few extra pics, but not double the amount )

Now my sister is younger then me and maybe didn't haggle as much as she could have so my mam ( being protective ) rang up to complain to them that she thought they had taken advantage of her. The woman she spoke to said oh yes I can see your other daughter came three weeks ago and spent this much and ordered this. My mam then rang me and told me what had happened and I'm absolutely furious that they discussed with her how much I had spent and what I had ordered without a) my permission and b) her even asking!

Can they legally discuss my account? I mean what if I didn't want her knowing how much I had spent?!

Probably not but there is little point in pursuing it as you would have to prove it. Could you afford to litigate and if so,what would be the purpose? I have a camera so if your in my area,id happily take some pics if i have some free time :)

It's just I thought with the data protection act you couldn't discuss another person's account details without their permission

I guess my thinking is that its no-bodies business how much I spent and they shouldn't discuss that with someone without my consent ( like I said it was a fair amount I spent and I didn't particularly want anyone knowing! )

Would the fact that my mam knew exactly how much I paid ( without me telling her ) not prove that they discussed it?

I think I got this straight, ok your mum knows how much you spent, but at least she also knows you did not spend as much as your sister (who spent double what you did).

Strictly speaking they should not have disclosed your details to your mum. But it's no big deal, really, it was your mother afterall. Hopefully they will give a refund to your sister, I think that's the main thing that needs to be worried about here.

Not really the point! They have no idea about the relationship she has with her mother or the implications of disclosing it.

OP, you can complain but as in this case there was no real consequences then I don't expect much will happen. I'm not an expert on what the Information Commissioner does with complaints though.

As you don't know what you are talking about. Why say something like that to the OP?

    OP,
I suggest you ignore 'dangeroussports' posts. They are exhibiting troll like behaviour.

You could let them know that you are not best pleased that they discussed details of your business with someone on the phone.
I doubt there will be any comeback, but no harm in pointing it out to them

Hope you and your sister are both happy with the pictures.
