Ending Vodafone contract early - Think I can do it !!!

I am 8 months into a 18 month contract with Vodafone. I have always been very happy with them until I moved recently. I cannot get any signal in my new house and therefore the mobile is useless to me. I have contacted Vodafone to see if I can get out of the contract early and they have come back with the usual "as long as you pay the remainder of your contract as a early disconnection fee". I am paying £ 40 a month which I might as well throw in the bin !!!! Vodafone say that they will be updating the mast in my area eventually but cannot tell me when this will be. Is there any way I can get out of it ?

  • Just an idea but maybe you could wait until you've had the contract for 9 months and then downgrade your current tariff to the cheapest tariff you can get (I have been told by Vodafone CS that you can downgrade as many times as you like after the initial 9 months). Then if you need to pay the remaining months to get out of the contract, you would be paying based on the new tariff.
  • Thanks for that. Am going to try that as a last resort but am going to keep trying with them for a cancellation. Surely they are breaking the contract by not providing what was promised ??? Also, I read somewhere that most of contracts made over the phone or in your own home are not legally binding. I don't want to be difficult with them but I also don't want to be throwing £ 40.00 a month away !!!!

if you can give them the evidence from your contract where they promised 100% mobile coverage then you are home and dry.

Otherwise it was your choice to go somewhere with no signal, not their choice. It's going to rely on their goodwill to get out of this the cheapest way so whatever you do make usre you don't threaten/burn bridges with them whilst you negotiate and try and find the nicest Customer Service person
  • Think I have got them !!!

It says in their terms and conditions "You may end this agreement immediately by writing to us if :-
    • we do not do what we have to do under this agreement and do not put it right within 7 days of being asked in writing to do so ;
    • all of the services are permanently no longer available to you

if you move 1/2 mile to your left they will be available. Otherwise everyone could just cancel their contract after 2 days by wrapping their phone in tinfoil

Would it not have been an idea to check the mobile signal strength before you moved....

You are stuck in the contract - anyway the mobile works other places.....

You reckon that's a factor when moving?!
  • A glimmer of hope

Orange and Vodafone have signed a love in agreement (limited site / mast sharing)

Went to a house in the middle of the country last week. They guy said the only mast was that one (and pointed to the other side of the valley) and it was Vodafone. NO OTHER network worked in the village.

I have Orange and had a full signal (including 3g)

Go to the ofcom sitefinder site and check if you have an Orange mast nearby and call ask them (not Vodafone) when that mast will be upgraded.
Each mast has a ID number and detail of what operator(s) use it.

I would also ask the same question to Vodafone customer servicies, if you do I wish you luck as the question will be out of their little bubble.
    baldly going on...

I moved 120 miles away to move in with my boyfriend. Don't think he would have been too pleased if I had said I couldnt have moved in with him 'cause of my mobile !!!!

Anybody else not moved house just 'cause of their mobile ? Thought not !!!!

Well Vodafone do not promise 100% coverage therefore if you have been unfortunate enough to move somewhere without coverage Vodafone are not breaking the contract in anyway unfortunately.
