I dont know why people have to stick R numbers on smarts, and ive had quite a few lately with writing on the smarts. It doesnt say anywhere in the training to write on the smarts, so why do it???

I dont think ive had any junk mail, i just log it, stick a yellow sticker on it (when we had to do that) and send it to kantar

Does anyone get the odd junk mail sent with your test initals on it?
No, I have never had any junk mail with my test initials on it. I think the companies that Kantar/Research International deal with are told not to use the data base they have for survey mail as potential customers. If you do get junk mail with your survey stuff, I would inform Kantar.:D

I get what you could call junk mail with the test initials on them, I log them as survey items as I guess the people who send out the junk mail want to test the mail system as much as the other companies?

The thing is, how do these companies get your address in the first place, and, as you suggest those companies want to test the mail system, how are they going to access the info if that item will not be registered with Kantar so therefore no feedback. BTW Don't think I am being rude with my reply, I am only saying what I was thinking.:D

I thought the research was only for use by Royal Mail? Maybe Royal Mail use the fiqures to show performance to their junk mail clients?
Are you sure these are not test items your reciving? I would e-mail or call Kantar and see what they say about it.
The only alternative is there is some kind of mole selling this database or Royal Mail are harvesting databases to sell to marketing companies based on letters which go through their system.

I've had what I've thought was junk mail, and actually binned it before realising it was actually test mail. The mail you get isn't only private mail but also business mail so the Royal Mail's delivery has to be tested for every item trusted to its care - even junky old leaflets advertising stuff no-one would ever want!

I had to retrieve it from the bin - good thing it wasn't winter or it would've gone on the fire!

If in doubt I'd enter everything with test initials. Liz

just found this on the website, may clear things up for you :)
Important note about test items: Please remember that although test items are created to look like ‘normal’ items of mail they are not dealt with by the sender in the same manner. If you receive any test items which request a response please do not reply, but process online and return the item to us as usual.

Important Survey Message: If you have any SMARTs which do not appear in the online checklist then please return these to us as quickly as possible in a SMART return envelope.

We appreciate your help with this.

mrcol1000 - re the yellow stickers: Thank you! Had read the instructions through about 5 times and couldn't see any reference to them.

I think they are test items from junk mail companies. Many other companies (such as BT and Abbey and smaller companies) also send me items with my test initials on them, so I treat them all the same.
