  • Very useful thread....so thanks everyone.

Just spoken to SaleTrack and they do seem very good. Their most expensive for next day is £6.30 + vat.

    BUT

something is niggling me about them, not sure what, just something. So who can reassure me
  • Just ordered a collection with Parcel Machine for the first time.

I've noticed that their prices add VAT, yet their invoice says 'not yet VAT registered'. That's forbidden isn't it?

    Yeah thats not allowed.
  • would be interested in hearing how good smart parcels are .

SaleTrack are the bees knees. My personal thoughts, also back up by quite a few others in this thread who have switched to SaleTrack. As far as I'm aware their most expensive is around £5.75.
  • NO - smartparcels.co.uk spammed this site, pretending to be an independent poster. I don't think we should encourage that behaviour by spending money there.

Quite right. Smart parcels have burnt all their bridges here. The fact clair12 recommended them should be enough to send people elsewhere.

    Looking for help.....

Want to send a heavy parcel to Isle of Wight. 70.5 kgs, any suggestions on delivery method??

    Cheers

Try interparcel, but I think you may be too heavy for that. Failing that 'shiply' 'ukbuckloads' or one from the yellow pages.

My DPD (directparceldistribution) saga continues (see post no. 645) as they refused claim for damaged parcel quoting completely unreasonable clause in the T&C on their page:

12.2 Direct Parcel Distribution requires that you check all packages for damage BEFORE you sign for them and if there is any damage please sign the package off as damaged when you recive it or it will invalidate any claim for compensation.

This is perpetual self cancelling clause - how could I, person agreeing to T&C of carriage check contents on the other end and sign any parcel as "damaged". Even in optimistic scenario, how can I, the sender, impose any obligation on recipient, which is third party not involved in contract between me and DPD, to check contents before they sign delivery slip (and even then, can you imagine someone opening and assembling item to check for damage while DHL guy waits?).
Guys, I'm going to take it to small claims online but meanwhile please be aware - if something goes wrong you have no come back with DPD. It's literally contract with made up terms on a napkin.
  • http://www.freightsearch.com/ £7.89+vat - DHL 24hr

Cheapest 24hr I'm aware of, by quite a way.

My experience is unless the parcel has been squashed flat with tyre marks over it or water damaged or burnt or some other really obvious damage such that the person who is receiving it thinks "bl***y hell whats happened to that " so will sign as received as damaged without any prompting your claim will not suceed.
Of course the driver isnt going to wait while you unpack it and check for damage - if there is no obvious external damage and the item is damaged inside it was down to your packing - at least that what the carrier will say and i have some sympathy after seeing what some people think is acceptable packaging on a fair % the items i receive. If your packing relies on careful handling to reach the other end you will come unstuck. If your parcking looks like it could be kicked or dropped off the back of a van or have a lot of heavy parcels stacked on top of it and survive you'll be OK.
  • Blimey, what's happening to courier guys this week? First prices go up, now I just had a completely different DHL collection guy turn up and gets *me* to fill in the shipment bill :p So that took a few minutes... Anyone happen to know what Freight Search's account number is for DHL? Or what the contact name / company name should be for them? I just put my name there and the guy said he'd look up the account num. Gawd knows what'll happen if any of it's wrong though.
