Cheap Parcel Delivery Thread MK3

Has anyone had any experience, (good or bad), with Freightsearch.com please? Were they reliable?
I only have a small item to send, (weight 1.05 kg and measures 33 x 26.5 x 24.5 cm) but it's made of glass, (they say you have to get written agreement from them for items made of glass etc, so I've e-mailed them to ask).
When I put all the details in for a quote and to see which carrier would be used, it said it would be DHL. I hope they're careful with fragile items?
I chose Freightsearch.com, as they look the cheapest from the list on the front page of this forum thread but that's not always a good thing, as you often get what you pay for!
It would be great to find a reliable courier service, as I have a long term illness and have to rely on family to go to the post office for me. I just have the odd parcel to send now and then.
Any advice would be great. I've been reading your experiences but haven't seen anything said about Freightsearch.com. Not looked at every page yet though!
Thanks in advance. :hello:0 -

Sending a glass item I wouldn't expect to have any insurance cover. If you pack items well they will more than likely be fine, but the onus falls on you to package well, rather than for couriers to treat items with kid gloves. It will make no difference on who you send it with, couriers all very much of a muchness.
Finally perhaps the most important point (which is my most repeated one), freightsearch only book your parcels, they do not touch your parcel at any point. Once it is booked (which it is automatically with them) it is totally out of their hands. So problems like failed collections, late deliveries are very much outside of their area of culpability. Likewise if you send oversized parcels, you've got to prepared for the surcharges to be passed on.
I would however say that due to the weight, it would be cheaper with the Royal Mail, and even realistic to use Special Delivery.0 -
Hiya.
looking to send a parcel inland. No rush, but cheapest with insurance of around £50.I used to use Pharos until they got expensive and recently once with ppwexpress.
My printer is playing up and i cannot print any waybills etc..Are there any companies that will just pick up and send without me having to print anything?
Many thanks.0 -
I booked 5 parcels with DPD on Sunday evening. The DHL driver collected two yesterday morning and two more yesterday evening.
The only urgent one, (wanted by Friday), which I booked first, is still here, and it is past DHL's normal morning collection time.
I reported the non collection yesterday, using DPD's "REBOOK A FAILED COLLECTION" button system and with a normal email, asking for it to be picked up.
Does anyone have a telephone number for DPD please? or any other suggestion?

No need for a reply, thanks. I have made communication with DPD and answered my own question.0

This is what makes freightsearch distinguishable from most of the other courier agents; and that is they are not simply booking agents, but offer a complete logistic solutions, for example they can also set up individual sub accounts with all the main couriers- which has all the benefits of having a direct account, but importantly vastly superior rates.

Thanks so much for your very helpful and detailed reply. I really appreciate it. I'm waiting to hear back from them now, about the written agreement for sending a glass item. You're right that it would be cheaper to use Royal Mail but nobody can get to the post office for me right now, so it's worth it to me to pay more and have the courier come to my house to pick it up.
Thanks again :beer:0 -
we have used Sale Track for 3 weeks, so far so good.0

Have it on pretty good authority that DHL prices are set to rise dramatically as of Monday 1st December. Could be somewhere around £10 no matter which agent you use,.
Anything booked before say Friday morning ish will be held at the same price even if collection is in December but after that up the price goes.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - don't shoot the messenger.

Again, or is this the second phase of the first stage?0
-
it is the last stage and the last price rise, even parcels 2 go have had it done to them0
