hmm. interestingly DHL picked up the parcel today, despite me recieving an email from DPD saying no refunds or free re-attempted delivery's.

Great Customer service from DHL....or was I just lucky - did the driver just happen to be in the area and thought why not pick it up?

yes, found it really strange too. Luckily someone was in the house and managed to catch the driver just as he was getting in his van. I reckon I was just lucky - the same driver just probably happened to be in the area and thought, lets give this house a try once more.

8 of my parcels were delivered today from the booking with direct parcel dist. Excellent service from DHL. The other one is a delivery to Portugal.

    Hi All!

Can anyone suggets the best way to post delicate china? I am selling some crown derby one ebay and I need to post it all. I have all the packaging sorted now but I don't know the best way to post.

The lady at teh post office was very helpful and explained that none of the post office insurance covers china breakage so that's out. Some will be worth around £100. I was thinking just First Class Recorded? I don't know! So confused!!

As always - thank you so much!

  • Have a look at any of the options on the first page, for insurance you'll have to ask what's covered.

I'm nit sure what enhanced cover is available on RM airmail/airsure. But I do know if it's over 2kg you can't use that service.
  • Arranged for 2 parcel collections on Thursday. Admittedly I was probably asking for trouble as one in Aberdeenshire but the other was in Middlesex. Both collections failed - no phone call, no email and no collection.

Re-booked both for today. Directparceldistribution blamed DHL but the lack of communication from both parties does not inspire confidence. The Middlesex parcel was picked up but yet again a failed collection for Aberdeenshire (business address). Have possibly unwisely decided to re-book a third time for Monday.

Am I expecting too much or are these people completely useless ?

Is there a cheap courier/broker who actually runs a reliable service and takes some responsibility ?

    Thanks

    Rob

Thanks Armiktage, I think you are talking to me! I'll have a look at the first page but i was just wondering if anybody had any personal experience?

I definately won't be sending airmail (again assuming you were replying to me!!) as I only post UK. When I said china I ment the material not the country!!

  • Ooppsy, I read it as delicate china to china!

Same applies really on the 2kg, over that it is cheaper with a courier (any of which on the first page are fine). It all comes down to how well you pack it. There may be an argument that with the RM they will get less manhandling, but I don't know.

Courier agents literally only book the parcels, and only know as much as you or I on a parcels status by what the tracking says. Once they book a collection it is totally out of their hands. If a collection fails all they can do is re-book it, once ascertaining whether it was the sender or courier was at fault.

The way you've got to look at it is that agents are intermediaries that allow you to book parcels for 1/4 of the price they would if you booked direct, and when things go wrong it is by in large in the couriers domain where the problem occurred.
