it needs ot be boxed,no courier will take it unboxed.
well, wrapped but if you dont box it then it will be highly likely to get damaged.
often you can get an old box from your local bike shop

Thanks, I got a box from Halfords today ready to send.
I'm concerned about the height, it will be more than 60cm. The weight according to the guy at Halfords will be around 15kg.
Which is the best courier service to use to send a bike??
    Hoping for around a tenner.

  • I'm really enjoying reading this thread and feel like I have learnt so much in no time at all. I have just been looking at Rainbow Parcels and Wigi Dispatch's Terms and discovered that they are indeed Shafi........ either that or they use there claims department "Shafi Shalar Enterprises"

60cm shouldnt be a problem it just when it higher than 1.20m
  • everyone seems very concerned about filling in the correct weight and dimensions when booking an online collection.
i use the same dimensions and weight for all my parcels, all just under the stated limits :D

DHL accept 150 x 60 x 60 on the conveyor belt, regardless of what the booking website says, and the courier doesn't see what you fill in at the booking stage anyway.

i have sent a package 200 long, and nobody has questioned it.
i frequently send items weighing around 35kg, and as long as the driver is happy to load it, then nothing else is said.
when i have items of a similar weight delivered to me, DHL even send a special van for heavy parcels.
it quite often shows "over weight" on the tracking, but thats all .

so i wouldt worry too much, the resellers only want your money, and the couriers don't seem to care if your parcel is over size or over weight. :rotfl:

Very big savings possible on parcels up to 11kg sent anywhere in the world

With these rates it is worth seriously considering listing on ebay.com, ebay.com.au and ebay.ca.

Some of the postage costs will probably be have to be absorbed, and remember to inflate the item price to cover part of the postage cost- especially when listing on ebay.com as shipping cost sensitivity and awareness is high/low.

That's the kind of attitude which pushes prices up.

Yes you can send up to 160cm in length, as long as the volumetric weight isn't over 30kg. 150x60x60cm/6000 = 90KG, Everything that is over 30kg volumetric will cost the courier agent extra. I don't what the costs are, but if we sent something 90kg with Sale Track it would invoke the largest 'out of gauge' DHL surcharge which is £60.

I'm not for one minute saying we haven't sent things which we over weight/size ourselves, but everyone's got to be aware that it's not with out it's consequences.
