    Expensive, indeed.
  • BT's reverse charge cost's £3.50 connection plus a five minute block of call time at £1.

Making minimum charge £4.50 and they do not have to quote the price of the service to either the caller or the receiver.
If saved £2710 and only spent the interest (Based on a return of 5%), you would have enough money to pay your TV Licence every year. Saving you £7452.50 over a period of 55 years, based on you buying a license from the age of 20 until your 75 at a cost of £135.50.

If your referring to the ASA decision as mentioned in my previous post, this is because BT do not advertise this therefore the ASA can't investigate. BT don't even need to advertside unlike 0800Reverse because for most people they would just ring BT anyhow and ask them to reverse the call charges. 0800Reverse, being a newer company, is trying to gain customers by making their presence known (ie advertising) unlike BT who are sitting comfortable.

I do agree though that BT should be forced, like any other company offering Reverse charge facilities, to inform the receipient of the call that they are being charged x amount per minute with x connection charge.

To be honest they may already do this, I'm not sure because I've never received a reverse charge call.

In April 2005 (I kept the e-mails), they responded to my 9:45am instruction at 4:08pm.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • My sons friend uses this service to get a message to my son to call him, he has been ringing up to 36 times a day from 7.30am to midnight. my son has been calling them back not accepting the charges, it is coasting me a fortune my phone bills have gone up 200- 300%. I had asked the friend to stop and told him if he want to talk to my some he should get some credit for his own phone. I Spook to BT who couldn't help and was trying to find the web page when I came across this forum. A big thank you for telling how to stop this nuisance:beer:

Beware - when you e-mail them (see HERE) asking them to bar your number from receiving 0800Reverse calls, they reply:
    Thank you for your enquiry.

As requested a block (5 years) on the 0800 Reverse charge service has been issued against your telephone number.
