Check use by dates and buy mostly basic stuff that you will be sure to use.

It is a fabulous idea to stock up......but be sure you have enough storage for everything:rolleyes:

  • Sorry to hear about your job...

Do you have any debt? I'd probably chuck money at paying debt before spending it all on store cupboard stuff at this stage, you've got a couple of months and I'd try to really knuckle down, spend as little as possible and either pay off or save as much as you can.

I'd also suggest you pop across to the Grocery Challenge and join in, if you're like us you'll find that you can save a lot of money by shopping, cooking and eating better than you do now and you might find that things you stock up on now don't turn out to be of much benefit to you.

    Good luck xxx

    I've been Money Tipped!
We have 2 freezers, one we get our bread at the beginning of the month so we always have bread for the month, been looking at meat, will try and cut back aswel and bulk food out more with veg and other bits

I would perhaps use the freezer space for things like cheap meat, poultry that are on special offer now. If need be you can always buy value bread at a push. Will be far better to have some decent meal making stuff in to choose from.
  • Hi
currently doing my monthly shop, I found out yesterday that it looks likely I will lose my job in the new year. I am thinking now whilest I can afford it we should be getting some extra food in our monthly shop.

Have you thought about not stocking up, but putting any spare money into a savings account  That way you can buy what you need and have no worries about storage or food going off (for instance mites in flour  ).

We have an existing thread on the merits of stocking up. I'll merge this thread with it to keep ideas together ;)

Thanks, only small debts which I have arranged to pay extra off over the next 2/3 months, so they will be cleared.
We cook 95% of meals from scratch, as I love cooking, I aslo really like cleaning (which the better half thinks is funny but doesnt complain!)

  • I always defrost my freezer at this time of year and stock up for Christmas after that, I do have quie a lot towards Christmas anyway but the freezers are more energy efficient if they are not iced up - therefore saving on extortionately priced electricity.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
