I'm lucky, as I work in the main town where the shops are, so tend to tag the shopping onto a days work, rather than make the effort do come in on a Saturday (it's a 20 mile round trip)
My cupboard is always stocked with supplies of pasta, pasta sauce, some tinned fruit and veg, as well as beans etc. The chest freezer in the garage is full of bread and other things that have been on special that I buy up and use - handy in the winter months if the ferry hasn't been able to sail for a few days!!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

We try to store enough basics for twelve months by rotating what we buy each month with something from our food storage.
We have found it invaluable in times of need - its one thing we don't have to worry about should anything happen in our situation.0 -
The rest of you rural'ites will be jealous to know that when we move back "home" we will be able to get a Mr T delivery out of the "big shop" that is 30 miles away, I can't explain how excited I am by that
My sister is an Islander, she lives on one of the German Frisian Islands with only ferry access, she has a good sized cellar and a couple of large freezers! I admire you islanders....I couldn't do it!
Anyway, it's a good job we've got full freezers and well stocked cupboards, all of our savings are in Icesave so for the moment we are stuffed and I don't have enough money to last this month so hurrah for full cupboards!Piglet

given the present financial crisis Ithink its a good idea to stock up with non-perishables incase of job loss or whatever.
Things like soap,pet food,bottled water,matches,candles,tinned food.
All this in addition to getting rid of debt asap and getting a few savings together for if it all goes pear-shaped."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0 -

I've got loads of stuff stashed but still buy it when it's on offers. Like tins of beans and toms, and tea bags. The box room floor has loads of tins on it, there's only 2 of us :rotfl:
I think that though my children have grown up, I'm still buying enough food for 4 people:cool:

I wish I could use up... I seem to have some form of OCD which makes me keep buying food. If all of the shops closed tomorrow I could probably survive for 6 months
quite ridiculous!
You and me alike.I'm beginning to get worried about my own behaviour.
There's only two of us but the house is stuffed with food.If there is a food shortage it'll be the fault of all us on OS.We've got it all stashed away.0 -

Speak for yourself:pI never keep more than one spare of anything. ( well obviously toilet rolls come in 4s, but you get my meaning) Sorry but I just recoil from stockpiling. No doubt I'll live to regret this in the months to come
I'll be that poor soul trawling the shops for a bag of flour:rotfl: Perhaps you'll take pity on me:o No offence meant but I worry that stockpiling just leads to panic buying, that quickly leads to artificially created shortages
You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0
