Only by a cats whisper of roughly £20 !! from a few circumstances / useage that i have looked at, including low users. I have not included online tariffs, and ebico is usually at least £100 or so cheaper for the gas, but not anymore. For that poultry difference, try looking at duel fuel tariffs, direct debits discounts etc..

but then in the example of electric is £110 more expensive !!

The best savings seem to be (for Midlands):

    eBico for Gas
British Gas Click Energy 6 for electricity.

We currently have Scottish Power "Fixed Price Energy Online 2011" (Historic) for the electric.

The cheapest available electric for us is just a few pennies over £5 saving compared to the Scottish Power tariff we are on.

We have eBico for gas, they are currently the cheapest (at the new increased rate) for us, the next cheapest is £35 dearer (Southern Electric).

Dual Fuelling dearer too than the separate we have.

We price fixed the electric as there was hardly anything in it - taking the gamble. OK it might come down by the time March 2011 arrives, it was only a fraction dearer and this was with no exit penalty - so if the prices do come down we can move away.

We didn't price fix the gas as the price difference was too high, and we worked out that it would have to increase by around 80% before the price fixed tariff was cheaper - plus you would have all those months of paying the inflated price.

Previously we took the gamble in 2005 not to price fix and went with EDF online V1 - we won there up until 2008 when we switched away due to the increase.

(We always pay by direct debit and always where available use online and paperless billing etc).

    Its time to abandon ebico...

    No it isn't.

It all depends on your own personal reasons for switching to them in the first place. If your desire is simply to SAVE MONEY AT ALL COST!!!! then sure, go back to sodding British Gas or one of the other pathetic big guns. At the moment, I'm perfectly happy with Ebico, and wouldn't dream of switching (even if they DOUBLED their prices!). But thanks for your concern...

I'm staying with Ebico only because they are the cheapest for the gas, now if another supplier was quite a bit cheaper, then we would have to switch - can't afford not to.

I noticed your area is yorkshire, well you can save over £110 if you switch electricity to SP. The gas depending on useage, is only approx £20 cheaper than the big 6, even for low useage.

As for reasons for staying with ebico, customer service, well thats with southern, so that can be obtained elsewhere. Fair, ethical prices, well that really isnt the case anymore, even some pre payement users are reporting that they can certainly get the elec cheaper elsewhere, where as the gas is exceptionally marginal.

Simple, straight forward billing... well that they do still have in their favour, although anyone on these forums wouldnt have difficulty in calculating their own bills.

Something else for 2009, british energy predictions reports, even though may not actually happen, predicted prices peak at jan 09 then come down. Ebico has a history of not adjusting prices when they come down... Ebico had a history of not increasing its prices so often, but that isnt the case now.

so basically you've got a problem with them

people can save money, a "poultry" £20

if you don't want to use them don't, but quit lying, as I said in my other post they aren't breaching anything of their ethical policy from what I can see. However in your posts I think you're treading a fine line on the accusations you are making

ok woby tide, ebico main purpose / ethics is fair price for all, poorer households who may be on pre payment meters.

Why are some pre payment meter user reporting the elec is cheaper elsewhere?

is that fair and ethical? is that in line with ebicos statements?

    FOR EXAMPLE :
I have found that for me in the midlands area electricity on prepayment works out around £50pa less on edf and over £120pa less on their energy assist social tariff.
    http://www.edfenergy.com/sustainabil...l-tariff.shtml
so i'm leaving ebico electric after 4yrs

WOBY-TIDE, i think you should go and read some info from ebico pages, it goes on about trying to support those who are more disadavantaged i.e poorer households etc.., and that the big 6 are not as focussed on that issue and driven by profits. But yet ebico is now more expensive for such a pre payment meter user as the example given above.

EquiGas and EquiPower were set up specifically to ensure a fair, low rate for those on low incomes who need it most.

I am sure fair means fair, and im sure low means low as in cheap, but is not the case now, as the big 6 offer better even in circumstances in the example above, pre payment meter, poorer household.

So it does make them at least hyprocritical, and their mission / statements / ethics are now not achieving their goal, as it once did.
