    just been reading the bg click 5/6 thread and someone mentioned that if you move to another supplier because of price increase if you write to them (BG) they will keep you on current (the lower prices) until you transfer to the new supplier....can you do this with ebico as well?
    thanks

    I can't see why not, they are an energy supplier like the rest.
    Call me Carmine....

    HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??

    Is Ebico as unethical as British Gas?

    Yes it is now.

    At least british Gas dont claim they are ethical, fair price for all, no shareholders / advertising to pay and no profits. Of course ebico does claim this, and now charges you a lot more than some other energy suppliers who do make profits, shareholders, advertisements to pay for.

    As stated prior, how much subsidy does it need for people who pay by pre payment / key card considering, you can go elsewhere and pay by dd and get average use elec £110 cheaper, or pay by cash / cheque £45 cheaper. I believe its gonna be very marginal if not more expensive for pre payment meters / key holders too.

    Here is the evidence:

    ebico new price for yorkshire elec 14.07 inc vat 24.5 % increase
    3,000 kwh (average use per year) = £422

    scottish power yorkshire pay by direct debit (discounted energy 3 % off rates)

    Tier 1 14.326 inc vat, ceiling 900
    Tier 2 08.816 inc vat
    Based on average 3000 kwh, yorkshire region
    Total = £314

    or

    Scottish Power, yorkshire pay by direct debit standard rates

    TIER 1 14.769 inc vat, tier 1 ceiling 900
    TIER 2 09.089
    Based on average 3000 kwh, yorkshire region.
    Total = £323.79

    or

    Scottish Power yorkshire pay by quarter cash / cheque
    Tier 1 17.236 inc vat, ceiling 900
    Tier 2 10.665 inc vat
    Based on average 3000 kwh, yorkshire region
    Total = £379.09

    or

    Scottish Power pay as you use by pre payment meter
    Tier 1 19.551 inc vat, ceiling 900
    Tier 2 12.779 inc vat
    Based on average 3000 kwh, yorkshire region
    Total = £444.32

    Well, ebico works out £22 cheaper for pre payment / key card holders on average use.

    But if you pay by cash / cheque every quarter ebico is £45 more expensive.

    But if you wish to pay by direct debit then ebico is £110 more expensive.

    So based on those comparisons, what can you evaluate from it?

    Well we know ebico is fair price for all, particulary based towards pre payment / key card payment.

    Ebico the consumer saviour saves you £22 a year if you are pre payment !!, but grossly over charges you if you pay by other means. So ebico ethics / claims, saves pre payment £22 per year !!! , but then charges you £110 or £45 more than elsewhere to pay by dd / cash / cheque. So remember your £110 or £45 depending on how you like to pay, saves pre pays £22 !!!!!

    Do those figures justify a company that is not for profit, no shareholders, no advertising to pay, no switches to pay and fair price for all? Considering it is being compared against a company who is for profit, has no ethics, does have shareholders / advertising to pay?

    Does the difference in amounts justify the means, in subsidising? pre pay meters etc..

    Does ebico have the consumer at heart? does ebicos ethics really mean anything now?

    Is this a fair price for all?

    Are ebico really being honest about all their claims? or are they now dishonest in still making such claims?
  • I have found that for me in the midlands area electricity on prepayment works out around £50pa less on edf and over £120pa less on their energy assist social tariff.

    so i'm leaving ebico electric after 4yrs

    On my calculations on my usage of 10,500kwh at 3.77kwh I can't find a cheaper supplier using any of the comparison sites? Which suppliers would be better for that sort of low usage out of interest?

    so by your lack of response, thats a no then

    lol, well how can i compare anything if i dont even have your area? and type of meter and payment method.??? You asked a question which couldnt be answered.

    Based on 13,000 kwh yorkshire region (which is a low user) and payment by cash / cheque per quarter, ebico only works out to be £20 cheaper than southern with similar comparisons.

    I can of course compare payment by direct debit, and or duel fuel tariffs and know for sure it will be cheaper elsewhere, because there is only £20 difference on the above stated circumstances.

    So yes ebico is expensive even for low users now, figures already given on electricity above (for average use), as for gas, its marginal at the best for low use (prior to this rise, the marginal point was approx 17,000 - much nearer average use), and cheaper depending on how you wish to pay, ie. direct debit even for a low user.

    yet you've been able quote figures using the average useage though?

    the difference in cost by areas is marginal, but if you insist 10,500kwh, Southern, single unit meter, monthly direct debit or any payment method you wish

    Still cheapest for me, postcode OL2, average useage 9491KWh. Still cheapest by £41 against any other supplier, with any other kind of discount.

    So far i have gotten within £20 with eon direct debit monthly gas only. That does show how expensive ebico is for really low useage and how little difference there is now between ebico and the rest with the gas for very low useage. If you go for duel fuel, the discount is larger.

    I think what it does demonstrate is just how low the profit margins are for all the Utility companies.

    Whist that statement might be met with cries of derision from the uninformed, the percentage profit margins of all the major supermarkets and most major UK companies(I would have said banks until recently!!) are way above the big 6 .

    As has been said before, that the profit per customer is measured in £tens a year. Get them to make no profit(like Ebico) and it will hardly affect what we pay per year.

    When the industry was privatised, there were scores of companies got into the market and nearly they all found it impossible to compete. That also was when BG had to charge the highest prices for gas, and the regional electricity companies similarly restricted for electricity in their area.

    The only thing I would like to know is what salary the top management of Ebico earn.
