I've fallen off the wagon completely - I just don't even have the stamina to do week 1 so I kind of quit trying and just did different stuff at the gym. I'd love to start up again but I was making no progress whatsoever and don't want to go back to that.

It seems really hard but its not too bad - just go slowly and you will be fine :) I was worried about it too but you can manager it.

I really, really hope so, I will report back and let you know!! I can't believe how much I have enjoyed it so far and how good you feel when you finish each week without needing hospitalisation!!!!
  • Hi all,

would it be ok if I join in? I've pretended a few times that I'm going to start getting into running - but it's never quite happened!

I dragged myself onto the treadmill for the first time ever the other night and managed 17 mins and 40 secs (although the first 2 mins I was walking!) - so I'm hoping to build on that, and maybe get up to doing a 10k by September!

By doing other stuff you'll be building up to it, though. As long as you're doing something you'll be getting fitter, and then you can start again soon and you should find it easier

To be honest i was totally gob smacked I managed that. Any time I've tried in the past i've been practically on my knees after a couple of minutes, this time my boyfriend cam along with me, and he set my pace much slower than I would've normally.

it felt almost unnatural to be running that slow - but it was definitely a lot easier, and I suppose when I've increased the length of time I can run for - I can start to work on the pace I'm running at!

How do you all guage what time increments you should be increasing your running by?

Could you try maybe just doing lots of walking for a couple of weeks - then start running?

Sorry - I'm obviously jumping in a bit blind with the advice there - since I haven't had time yet to read back through the thread, I'm not sure what "week 1" actually involves, but any time I've talked about starting to run before - that's what I was always told to do

I am really disappointed, only managed 12 minutes of the 20 minute run. Did all the others first time and I sooooo wanted to nail this one too. Poo.
  • Don't be too disheartened Yippee - I'm not expert at this running m'larky, but with any exercise in general there are so many things that can affect how you feel. Whether you've eaten the right food, how much sleep you've had, how much of a break you've had in between your last exercise sessions etc, etc....

I'm sure you'll nail it next time round! :D

Not sure when I'll manage to fit in a bit more running, I'm working on my fitness in general at the moment, and have started a new class called "fat busting boot camp", I had it last night, and the first 20 mins of it is basically all running - but not in a very measured way - but man was it hard going!!

Tonight I'm meeting the trainer who runs the class to go over a full diet and exercise plan - so I'll maybe manage some running as part of that!

So even 12 minutes is much better than you could have done! Don't give up - you'll get there eventually.
