smelly onion hands!

I'll second the coffee ground soap, it really does help. Whilst you are at it, add a teaspoon of sugar and a squirt of washing up liquid, massage well into your hands and rinse off. Apply a dab of handcream (or olive oil) and presto! new hands!0

I rub my hands on the taps (or you could use the draining board if you have a stainless steel one) after peeling onions and it's great. Gets rid of the smell straight away.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Apparently washing your hands with hot water will 'cook' the smell on to your skin, making it much harder to get rid of, so after chopping onions and garlic you should rinse your hands under cold water to get the smell off. I've got no idea if this actually works though, I heard about it ages ago but always forget to try it!0

Washing your hands in cold water against stainless steel is supposed to remove garlic and onion odours. I rub my hands against a spoon or knife, but you can get a smooth lump of stainless steel to use like a bar of soap.I have no signature.0

Rather than buy the stainless steel "odour remover" I just rub my wet hands on the draining board ( stainless steel) seems to work
:D

I think from some nifty googling I may have just found a £4 stocking filler that will make me happy at least

If you rub your hands with vinegar before and after cutting up onions,it means you won't have a lingering onion smell.
Sorry,but I don't know if it works for garlic!0
