Hi just popping in for a few minutes. I am going to bed soon as I had 2 of my youngest grandchildren overnight and I am whacked.
We went to the sales today and bought trainers for ds3 £8.00, 4x5pairs of socks for dh and ds2 £10 in tj hughes. Then went to Woolies and bought 2 pairs school trousers for ds3 age 9/10 60p a pair! 2 pairs age 10/11 for £1.80 each, 1 jumper 10/11 £1.20, curtain rail £2.40 and 2 bags sweets for dh no idea what they cost but the whole lot came to £9.57 so not a bad haul really.
I hope you all had an enjoyable time over the hols.
I am trying to gear myself up to go to the allotment and get the seeds out of the shed so I can see what we need to add to them. Not enthusiastic about it yet but I will be. I think I need to read some of my gardening books for some motivation.

    Good evening all,

And happy rest of the boxing day. I am really pleased how my xmas meal turned out. It is not exactly what I was used to at home but not really that far away either. I think these combinations will stay on my xmas menu for years to come. :T

I also got some really lovely pressies, not quite as expressive as an orchad, well done Nyk! Bails got me a milk bottle with these jolly cows on it. It is soooooo cute. I need to now start following the rest of you frugallers and start buying full milk and then dilute it as I have the bottle to put it. SM, my fairy godmother, really made our christmas this year by giving us one of her magic hampers. It had loads of stuff to thrill DD but also the most wonderful bag for me and also some nice chocolate recipes. Never mind all the goodies I have hidden away from DD. And DD's godmother gave me this gorgeous purse, so no excuses of not getting my cash spendings and receipts organised.

DD's dad is now here to give her his presents. Yes I know what time it is but hopefully that means that she will sleep late tomorrow. He has promised to come back tomorrow or Sunday to take her to zoo again so I should get on with my assignment that was due on Monday :o. I think I will need to growel not to have to face the consequenses of handing my work in late.

I could kill for a large glass of Port but have stayed strong...i.e. not gone near shops that sell the stuff.

I think that is enough prattling. Off to see what is on TV and to have some snowman soup for pudding ;)

    Happy Holidays!!!!!

Hello again - mmmmm snowman soup sounds good, now thinking it's about time for hot chocolate, bed and watch film. Got several DVDs for Christmas, including another full box set (Ally McBeal :D ). :j

I'm happy now that I have organised all the seeds and have a month by month list for what to grow, where and when. I just need onion, leek and turnips to complete my preparatory collection and can't wait to get started. It's a 2009 subject, so won't fill up this thread with any details :)

Evening everyone.Hope you all had a lovely christmas.I'm trying not to think about shopping and sales and next years challenge.I really enjoy christmas and want it to go on forever.I enjoyed a family christmas lunch at my sisters and today has been a quiet day at home just me and the kids.Kids have had the chance to explore all their presents and I've played enough board games to last me a year.I wouldn't have it any other way though.I'm hoping not to visit a shop until new year and to just hibernate here. Can anyone remember when Christmas really did last until new year.no shops, sales or work.bliss :)

    Hiya,

I slept in late today, till about 10ish, then got up and went to Mr T to take back the stinky chicken wrapper and some too big boxers that I got for DH. They wouldn't take the boxers till tomorrow (today?), but took back the stinky chicken, and I got my money back. I then went to superdrug to check out the sale, but there was no sale, just a few bits of tat stuck on a shelf. I'm going to check out boots and amazon tomorrow when I am in the shop.

I spent the rest of today cooking, I've make a turkey curry, done my ham in the slow and then roasted it off (thanks for the tip sophiesmum), and prepped all veg for tomorrow. I used the stock from the ham in the slow to make soup, so it should be ready when I get up. I also made some potato scones from left overs from yesterday. Before this thread, I would have binned them, but I remembered that I had seen a recipie for them and they were really easy to make. I ate some and will take the rest to my dad tomorrow for the real test:rotfl:

DH is in bed, very worse for wear, he will defo be ill tomorrow. I have decided that on 1st January, I am going to keep a journal which I'll record on word and maybe do a condensed version on here. Then when the year finishes, I'll be able to see how far I have come (I hope). I am going to tally up what I owe (but will keep it to myself for now). I will reveal how much I have paid off on 31st December 2009.

I'm off to bed soon, not long now until the challenge begins.

    Nite all xx

I was thinking of doing a journal on laptop this year, when I was browsing through some of old threads I thought it would have been good to have some of the entries, photos etc as a record for myself of day to day frugal stuff. I may go back and save/print out some of the stuff from this years challenge yet.;)
    Sort of a private blog:D
Also need to have a look at my wishlist/ideas book and see what I have achieved and which direction I should be heading next.

  • Sophiesmum and Skint Lynne -I have a gmail email and with it you get photo storage and you can organise them into albums and there's also a blogger feature where you can write your diary in and you can choose to share it with ppl or keep it just for you. It also keeps spreadsheets and word docs under the document section. But annoyingly not PDF files so all my scanned stuff has to go in my yahoo briefcase. I started doing this after a passport incident - now I have a scanned colour copy of all my important stuff in case of fire/theft/blonde moment.

I find writing a diary really therapeutic and it's nice reading over my aims for 2008 and realising I've achieved most of them. Makes me feel all warm and proud of how far I've come in the last 3years

Good morning frugaltonians old and new :D

It's a beautiful, sunny day here but everywhere is still frosty white and frozen. I've stuck on a washing to hang out, as I'm sure cold blow is better than no blow. :rotfl:

I'm managing to stay away from shops simply by refusing to leave home - it seems such a waste to be stuck in a car at this time of year when you don't need to be. I'm going to round up Team NYK and see if we can get the greenhouse emptied, the groundsheet down, the potting shelves installed and the hutches & run constructed so that it isn't taking up all the space in what should be the garage.

Sophiesmum, I read my 'Wishing Book' (a gift I received last Christmas) and have been delighted by what I have achieved this year, even although the move out into the country was quicker than expected and to another rental, and not to the plot with a roof across the river with no bridge.:rotfl: :rotfl: (I am eagerly awaiting site updates to find out how much short our offer was of the final selling price.) My 'W' book had print outs and cut outs of various stuff that I was aiming for, so I'm impressed by how many of the goals have been achieved. Just the productive garden, livestock and savings to work on now.

    My Goals for 2009:

Save £1000 for DD & SIL 2B's wedding
    Fill my ISA
Get a few chickens & quail
Grow enough veggies to last us from this summer until next
    Restart the homebrewing
    Make jam from foraged fruit
Make at least 50% of my annual spending cash neutral

I can highly recommend keeping an online blog and a 'wish book'. I have my homepage linked to my profile and am in the process of loading up a photo album to go with it so that I have even more to look back at, plus I can share it with friends and family. :)
