Not been out today as the weather was very changeable and cold plus I was work. Yesterday however I bought a beautiful diary that I am going to use as my garden journal so I can track what I do and when with notes (and sketches) on how it went to prevent me making mistakes next year. My OH thinks I am very sad but I was tickled pink with it!

Excellent news about the allotment, JTB, that would have been a lovely surprise on Mothers Day!

Tried watching Top_Banana's video but my Internet connection isn't up to it :(

Weather here has been horrendous today and we'd to stop yesterday when the winds were getting dangerously high. Storm howling out there still, we've had lashing rain, hail and gale force winds mixed with sunshine but nothing can get done out there when it's like that.

Laura D, I have to ask - are those Silkies I can see in your avatar? :D

Rummer, I love the sound of your notebook. Do you paint/ draw? You'll have to put some piccys of your sketches up I'd love to see them :D

Top_Banana loved your video your allotment is ace and jtb congrats on the full allotment that's brill news :j

Nyk yep they're 3 little silkies only got them a couple of months ago, also got a buff sussex (shes the posh one) and 3 black rocks. I'm slightly chicken obsessed and can't believe how cute the silkies are when they waddle about :rotfl: Is it a wee silkie on your avatar? How many chucks have you got? And do they have crazy names? Mine are Barbara, Margo (from the good life), Lillie (after my favourite great aunty who grew fruit to make into jam for the womans institute), Nora, Torvill, Dean and Paxo...

    Morning everyone :D

Apologies for not catching up over the weekend but things have been all go here ! Friday was spent getting ready for our Guide fundraiser (got another one this weekend  ), Saturday was the fundraiser itself and we spent all of Sunday down the lotty. Result? I think I over did it a bit and needed to reign myself in and take it easy yesterday :o

Anyway I'm here now and lol'ing at the Hen House Corner - i'm yet to discover that addiction but who knows what will happen in the future :p . I'll have a read a bit later.

Thanks for all the well wishing about our good news - it's certainly shocked us and I think I just stood there for 10 mins with my bottom jaw on the ground, wondering where to start !!! But we've made a start and marked out a huge bed which DH has started digging. We've also given the kids a bed each to do as they want with. I think it's going to be slowly but surely this time instead of rushing to get it done so we can grow things. This is extra to what we've had and a bonus so it will be a case of popping things in as we dig. We're still unsure as to whether we'll be able to transfer it into our names so I'm not getting my hopes up just yet in case I'm devastated and we have to vacate in January - just going to plan for this year atm and see what happens.

Laura lol@ pot noodle :rotfl: , we do the cup-a-soup thing, probably just as unhealthy ! Glad everything is going well and yes, it is the 'norm' to get withdrawal symptoms :p . Sorry to hear about the poorly finger, ouch ! Not sure about the mulch mats, what did you want them for? We might be able to come up with something collectively ;) .

Rummer glad things are going well for you too. Can't wait to see some pics of all your hard work :D

Top Banana loved the video, doesn't look too bad either and nicely laid out from what I can tell. Look forward to seeing more !

NYK can you 'acquire' me one of those conservatories !  :D That's fab ! I'd love something like that and have the space for one too but i've never seen anything similar advertised on our freecycle. Eyes will definitely be peeled now though ;) .

Right must go and get kids packed off to school so that I can spend the day pottering in the greenhouse - got more seeds to sow ! Yay ! :j

Have a great day everyone (weather fab here today again :D ). xx

    Hi guys :)

JTB, I got redirected from chicken corner to this other chicken thread, as it's still active. Please have a read and get the chicken bug :D
The conservatory is a bit of a saga - my next door neighbour salvaged it from another neighbour, dismantled it all, moved it, rebuilt it out in their own back garden and then discovered it was in line with their satelite dish, so had to remove half of it. He gave us all the extra bits and we used them to make raised beds and cold frames. That was just a few weeks ago, then neighbour got a new house and is moving, so we got the rest of the conservatory and I paid him to dismantle, move and reassemble the entire set up. :rotfl: It was very reasonable for such a sturdy construction and I managed to build 2 more hen runs and another hen coop from what was left over.

It's actually dry outside today so I'm hurrying through this morning's work and postponing this afternoon's until tonight so I can go and make a start on my mini-pond :D

have a good day, everyone. Laura, I'll see you in this chicken thread soon :)

oh no another aspirational thread to follow

Not sure i have mentioned before but our title deeds state no livestock (something to do with being ex council houses we also have a caravan and do lots of weekends away which means theres no one to look after them

i and the neighbour next but 1 want chooks and tempted to flout the rule and see if anyone complains that way we each have a caretaker when the others away :D

I might peek at the chicken thread but scared what the results might be :rotfl::rotfl:

I've extended the bed up to the white piece of wood. I'm going to put spuds in it asap.

The bits that I've dug over and weeded has gone dry. Is this a problem?

What else should I do to prepare it for planting spuds? Add fertilizer?

Top_banana that looks fabulous! I think potatoes grow well in most conditions so the ground should be fine as is.
