  • I am well prepared for this.

I own two pairs of brown trousers, but unfortunately, one pair are dry clean only.

FTSE 100 is down a massive 41 basis points. I suspect they're waiting to see what happens in New York when they open at 2.15pm (?).

Nothing to do until Thursday now anyway as the House is closed.

    Happy New Year, peeps!

Umm, sunset Wednesday night, surely? That's why Congress can't get together again until Thursday. Also, of course, it gives them a chance to sort things out in the meantime.

Oh, and a happy and prosperous new year to all!

The Jewish New Year is 1 day, starting last night.

However after the fall of the Temple and the scattering of Jews into the diaspora, it became the practice to celebrate it over 2 days, to make sure the right day had been identified (belt and braces approach). Some Jews still only have one day. Yoma Arichtah means that the two days are treated as "one long day".

This is the start of the 10 day period which ends with Yom Kippur, the Day of Antonement.

Its actually pretty stunning timing for Rosh Hashanah. I am not Jewish, so apology for any mistakes I make, but unlike 'our' new year, Rosh Hashanah has a strong element of looking back at what errors have been made over the last year and making plans to imprve the situation over the coming year. What could be more pertinent ATM?

L'shanah tovah to you and yours NDG. :)

2000 years since Hadrian destroyed the Temple, so the 2 days are hardly an innovation. Incidentally, Hadrian ought to be indicted for war crimes. Better late than never.
