Wife had her car serviced and MOT checked today; front discs and pads needed replacing but also one alloy wheel.... it was buckled, possibly when using car on farm track or similar for the Brownie camps. That said, to date it has only had tyres once and servicing since we got it in 2005 and it is now 9 1/2yrs old so can't complain really.

£301 for service, MOT & brake pads so not too bad I suppose . Better than your OH's Stuart, I read on your thread about it.

Like others on here though I'm thinking of changing it - it's done 122,000 in 5 yrs , so I'm expecting its' (admittedly superb) reliability to diminish. I'm thinking of a SEAT Ibiza which averages over 74mpg :D and with 3 yrs interest free credit - trouble is there's not too many garages about so less to play against one another. Have had a (hopefully) derisory offer of £1,500 trade in for mine , will have another look next weekend elsewhere. It appeared no-one had told him there was a credit crunch on as he didn't exactly go out of his way to sell me a car .

Came home from lovely weekend away to discover I've sold a DVD I won last week (had already sold a CD I also won), have won another CD and tickets to a show :D. Funny how the more you enter teh more you win - when I didn't enter any I thought I was unlucky :rotfl:.

Hope everyone has had a good weekend and is looking forward to tomorrow ;)

right that's it I'm comping for England tomorrow (OK technically Wales but I'm a English Rose really) I haven't been on that board for aaaaaaaaaaages.

    Well done on the sales.

My MOT and car tax are due next month, and we're also looking to change the car next year probably to a Focus diesel. Our car is officially a rust bucket!
  • well done on all your sales and wins:T

know what you mean about the car...i keep thinking that i should change mine every time the rotten piece of garbage needs to go to the garage...trouble is i am terminally lazy and can't bear the idea that i would have to go and shop for a new one!!:rotfl:

OK, quick update as it's the weekend :j.

Over the last few days I've had a little money coming in from mystery shopping, Amazon & a nice surprise of £57. Late last year & earlier this year I did some work for Texperts (same as AQA). I was rubbish :o as I type too slowly & inaccurately but the main problems were it was at the time before I switched to Sky for broadband and my connection kept dropping, plus I was never at home when you had to log on to book the next week's shifts.. Anyway, I gave it up as a bad job. However, they've paid me the diference between what I averaged per hour and the minimum wage, so that was an nice unexpected bonus.

So, the Texperts & mystery shopping money, plus my regular £200 from my wages plus my pay rise :jhave all gone to mortgage and the Amazon money has gone to my NY account :D.

    On the down side:
    - I've had to lift money from offset to pay BTL mortgage payments
    - I paid my tax bill, also from offset
    - I have a largish hole where the positive balance on my bank account should be . I've had a few additional expenses and TBH also overspent :o. I am projected to be -£550 the day before next pay day in Nov . Fortunately this is not costung me anything as it's masked by some money from late mum I have in there to pay off her bills etc, but I need to address this somehow . Trouble is all my[STRIKE] sources[/STRIKE] trickles of income are allocated elsewhere - it would destroy me (she says in an understated drama queen kind of way ;)) to use comp winnings etc for this purpose. So, I need a new income source.....

I reckon if I walk along with my eyes peeled to the ground I'll average finding 10p a week, that's around 105 years to pay off the £550. So, target date is 2113. Let's see if I can bring it down any :rotfl:, I like a challenge. That will have to be my plan until I come up with something else. The only other option is to stop spending .

OK, update Tomtom, 1/2 hr on wiifit, drive to pick up DD (2 - 3 hr round trip) & lots of other stuff to do. Have a good weekend all .

  • congrats on your unexpected windfall!!:T

mmm....not sure about the 105 years on the money replacement scheme though....think the stopping spending may be your only option :p ....after all in 100 years are your hours on the wiifit going to be enough to allow you to still bend down and pick up the cash??!!:D

enjoy your drive, have a great weekend and stop spending those pennies!!:rotfl:

Doh - too early to use brain......

Just realised that £301 of OD is actually from car service. This was paid by DD so I didn't incur additional charge for paying by CC. This will be covered by part of my bonus which I will get in No's pay, so the OD is already down to £249 :j. Which means, at 10p a week, it will be paid off by 2056 instead of 2113! Now, that's progress :D.

Frazz, you are being v silly. You forgot to take into account the additional suppleness I will be building into my body from all the bending over to pick up the coins ;).

Haven't been on wiifit. My bad :o

Following on from car passing its' MOT I've been seriously considering replacing it. I mentioned below I'd been looking at a SEAT Ibiza as it averages 74 to the gallon. Yesterday I went to another SEAT dealership as I was in the area. They didn't even have an Ibiza in stock that I could drive. If SEAT are doing a nationwide campaign wouldn't you think the dealerships would decide to make sure they always had one to test drive .

I said I was looking for 2 prices - 1 for cash, 1 for trade in. She disappeared for 5 minutes then said she's phone me today with a trade in price. No mention of cash price. And no phone call today.

I give up. If they can't be @rsed trying to sell me a car I can't be @rsed trying to buy one. I am happy with my little car but would have changed if the deal was right. I wanted to buy when it suited me, not when I felt pressurised as my car was starting to cost me money. But I just can't be bothered begging someone to sell me a car .

So, am a bit hacked off. Also, a few months ago I paid someone to remove all the old sealant from shower & redo. I'm a bit too cack handed to want to tackle it. I now have an interesting water feature in utility room when someone has a shower - water runs down the 2 holes the pipes from the boiler go through . So I'll be bl@@dy well doing it myself after all .

And I also paid a plumber to change 6 taps. Now I have an attractive brown stain on kitchen ceiling, so need to remove bath panel to find out which tap is leaking . This is the same plumber who has had the key to my late mum's house for a week to go round & assess some repairs & let me know when he can do it (broken pipe under floor, insurance co have uncovered break but I need to fix, then they will rip house apart & dry out :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:). And I haven't heard from him all week.

And, I can't get a plasterer for love nor money .

And a coat rack fell off wall (admittedly I have already bought a new one & put it up).

And I wonderwebbed DD's £5 bargain trousers on the wrong side on one leg :(

And, while I'm ranting, have felt used & abused by DD, DS & OH all weekend. Usual taken for granted story .

Am off to do wiifit & have a bath in my leaking bath, making the stain bigger. Will have a large glass of wine with me. World, you can s@d off and leave me alone.

Still, on a brighter note, my paying off OD plan is coming along. So far I have found 1p and 1 eurocent, so I think I am on target :D.

PS sorry for the bad language :o

Do I detect a bit of p***ed offyness!

Do you have any paperwork from when bathroom was done so you can phone up these numpties and get them to repair for nothing.

Enjoy your glass of wine but remember to lock the bathroom door so you can't be disturbed.

DD could start a new trend of bringing turn-ups back into fashion - it all comes back round!

Don't know how old dd and ds are but could you start a rota to help with the chores and oh to be included.

'WHY AM I THE ONLY PERSON IN THIS HOUSE WHO KNOWS HOW TO CHANGE A TOILET ROLL' - because other people think that the fairies do it and in this time of rising unemployment perhaps they want to keep them in a job!

    Hope you're feeling better tomorrow.
