Juts posted updated totals on MFit board & it got me thinking.....

Hmmm, average capital payment just under 1k a month.
Just over 1/3 of mortgage paid off in 1/2 the challenge.
If I carry on at same rate over 2/3 will be paid off by end of challenge (giving away age here - old school, can add fractions together :rotfl:). Except it would be slightly more than that as more going towards capital.

This isn't as easy as it looks, is it .

    Hi gallygirl,

I'm a few days shy of "owning" a mortgage free diary for a year. I've had around 31,200 hits in that time - around 2,600 a month or 600 a week, so I guess that means I may be qualified to reply... if not, feel free to disregard! :rotfl:

My original intentions for doing the diary still exist - wanted to state a public goal, desire to share experiences and problems with like minded people, use diary as a springboard to tackle the mortgage.

I wasn't 100% sure if I'd still be here after a year, but as I'm still rambling away, I guess you all have to put up with me now for the duration.

As for diary topics, I've recently started keeping a bit of A4 next to me at work and jotting down topics I think may be of interest / something I want to discuss. I also do the occasional "feature" post - this is where I've had a specific idea and I want to pad out and discuss - often I ask questions too.

I've noted that a year ago, I could put up a post and that could stay on page 1 of this MFW forum for a good few days. Now, it's much busier in here (which I think is a good thing) - don't know if that's DFWs moving on to this MFW, result of the credit crunch where people are realising they need to try and tackle their personal debt or what?

One thing I don't to enough of is post to other diaries, but I do read many of them...

I'll try and follow your progress.

PS 95 is much easier to say that 7 years and 11 months ;)
Mortgage and debt free. Building up savings...

So, good news & bad news to end the week:

    - Have opened an A&L current account. Have been Smile for years & had a superb service from them but interest rate only 2.27% v 8.5 from A&L. Reckon, after tax, I'll get another £35+ a year. I'm keeping one Smile current account open at the mo just in case. It hasn't tracked on quidco but 4 days is average & I've had an email saying I've been accepted so here's hoping.

    - Oops, made a booboo :o. Managed to make a payment into offset twice, so have had to transfer £250 out, otherwise will be O/D. So, my update, although accurate at the time, turned out to be artificially high. Am not changing it though as it doesn't alter things too much. Will just be a bit huffy with self for a little while :rotfl:.

That's it for now, off to sunshine in Spain for a long weekend. 25 degrees forecast for day, 18 at night :D. Getting some practice in for 96 months time when I can clear off for good :T.

    :D Yes I did :D

 But am back now

 To a £1228 tax bill

Will check it at the weekend but is probably right. Am trying to console myself with the thought that the £1200 has been in my offset saving me interest for 18 months  .

    It's not working though

Am in a huff now

Shopgirl, when you go to reply if you press the 'quote' button (next to the 'thanks' button) instead of the reply button it brings up the quote at the start of your reply.

You can leave the whole quote in place or edit it like this:
Oh no! Hope your huff has disappeared!:p

or be a bit naughty and misquote:

Glad you had a good weekend and your horrid tax bill didn't ruin it. Have a vino to cheer you up! I'll be having a bottle or two as I usually do every night

    :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

as long as you leave the square brackets in place at the start and end

OK I really need to get a move on as I have lots to do but thought I'd post on here as having a good start to day:

    - sold a cd won in a comp for £6.24 profit :j
    - had a letter to say I've won a book :T . Checked on amazon, not v valuable but should be able to sell for a few pounds.
    - received £5 M&S voucher from Direct Line quote :D (hopefully another waiting elsewhere for me ;) )
    - need to go to PO to pick up recorded delivery letter which could be a really valuable prize  (but suspect I know what it is & it's not!)
    - have checked quidco & £50 from A&L has tracked :T
    - have had all stuff through from them, signed up for nternet banking & added to my egg money manager
    - went to print off stuff for mystery shop & picked up another 2 while I was in there :j - for bookies, so lots of nice winnings to come as well :rotfl: . Doing them all today though so I MUST GET SHOWERED & DRESSED. In a minute :o .
    - worked out payrise was 5% - v pleased under current climate :D (although still leaves me over 1k less than year ago, but love new job). Should be over £80 a month, hmmmm, wonder where that will go ;) .
    - fed peefer the mortgage pig a big breakfast to make up for starving him for 2 days :o .

So, all good, however have input the tax payment into overpayment spreadsheet  . Computer says NO to paying off mortgage by Aug 2011 _pale_. Need to work on that. Starting RIGHT NOW BY DOING MYSTERY SHOPS!!!!!
