Xbox 360 Live ....help

Bought cable to connect xbox (bedroom) to computer (dining room) to enable my son to go"live", couple of "stupid" questions, where will i find IP address, and what is PPPOE? The screen is stating that it cannot find the IP address, and also asking for usernam, passwork etc. any help would begreatly appreciated, he cannot find his user manual:rolleyes:

by the way just incase u set it up tonight and ur son cant connect to live its because the servers are down for 24 maintenance and should up and running again 2moro morning.

Thanks Cooki2222 (r we related lol) I dont think it is that as he is having trouble putting his details in following putting cable in (or it might be!!), but thank god you have put that on this thread as he was doing my head in!! He has accepted that he needs to try and do it after maintenance has finished tomorrow as he has had me and his dad up and down the stairs since coming home from school, and i need to do tea, uniforms AND get ready for a nightshift!!! Will try tomorrow and if unsuccessful will probably be bugging you all again:p cheers everybody:T

I think it's Peer-to-Peer Protocol Over Ethernet (basically, how things communicate through the ethernet cable). Could be wrong, though...

Have you enabled ICS (Internet Connection Sharing)? I think you need to do this if you are connecting via ethernet to a PC or laptop.

I enabled it on my laptop (connected wirelessly to the network) and my Xbox was up and running straight away - I didn't need to enter anything. Dunno if I was just lucky or if it was enabling the ICS that did it

Thanks both, we are going to try again after schooltoday, fingers crossed, do wish now that we had bouth the wireless adapter and router now, the cable cost us £30 and chap at pc world just said connect to each and you are away!!! didwe do right removing ethernet cable and putting in this snagless networking cable?

Yeah when I got 2 calls one after the other at work about this I realised -pity they didn't make it a bit more well known. I worked 8am-11pm yesterday and got VERY bored with X-box calls (officially I'm not even supposed to be supporting X-boxes anyway)

Aspergers and non working X-box -hugs to you Cookie-NOT the best of combinations !
