  • So it will burn CD's that will play in a regular cd player rather than MPEG encoded audio that would only play in a DVD player ?
  • yep normal audio cds due to its "allwrite" technology

can it be used with a home cinema system manufactured by another company or would you recommend somethin else?
  • Moneylearner - can you confirm or deny RGB in/out on the 5005 ?

I was sure it didn't have it yet on the manual on Liteons website for 5005 - Euro version it states (Page 34) RGB in /out ! ?

    See screenshot on my webpage

    Any ideas ?

There is quite a lot of poor quality DVD recorders about at the  moment which are not RGB. So if you make a recording off SKY it will not be RGB and would be similar to what you see on terrestrial TV.

If you want a cheaper DVD recorder then I would go for the Panasonic DMRE55EBS at only 176.67 from dixons Buy some other present to get you to £200 and get the £20 off.

bought this yesterday at 149.99 just rang up to cancel, then tried to re-order but they are out of stock for home delivery now, managed to reserve one in local store. Well spotted thanks thats saved me £30.

  • I can add now that several people in my work organisation have bought this today after I spilled the beans. A quick ask around and everoynes (bought across Yorkshire and Humberside) have fully wired21 pin rgb scart in / out. Dont miss this, its an ace machine having played today

    Thanks for the reassurance, discodown.

I did find the manufacturer's spec sheet a little unclear, especially in view of the apparent upgrade in spec referred to above.

  • It depends what flavour of the 5005 you get. I think the later versions have RGB, but it was not always the case.

It can be connected to a home cinema amp since it has coax and optical out.

Recoding quality is good at the 1 and 2 hour mode, probably to most people as good as more expensive recorders. I can see any major difference on a 28 inch TV

Has firewire in but mine has no front svhs just phono plugs

Two scarts and a svhs out at the back
    SVCD is good as well
  • Looking at my manual the spec are for:

    5005A (standard model only)
    5005B (scart euro model only)
    5005D

Mine doesn't mention RGB since mine is probably an older batch

    Mines a 5005B
