Remember one thing The N96 is NOT a successor to the N95's, the N85 is!

According to Nokia's Press Release on the N96, it is the successor to the N95.

The N85 is the successor to the N81.

It's just the N85 seems to be a better overall package than the N96, unless you really want a 2.8" screen.
  • Hi Mug51, I am on the Dolphin 35 with orange. £35.00 a month, 600 minutes anytime/any network with unlimited text messages. I just carried on with exisiting tariff as it works for me (apart from when I am too lazy to use land line for 0845/0800 etc...!)
Web browsing doesn't bother me, I have a laptop with the wireless thingy (work) and I am sat in front of a pc all day anyway so never have the need to use my phone.
Other half had a look last night and he was impressed with the samsung, he now wants it too.
I am really pleased with it, def wont be sending it back, even though it has FIFA 08 on it!!!!!!! no!!!!!!
Battery has done really well, fully charged it y'day, I have VERY limited reception at my home and that is usually the battery killer. Only 1 bar down this am.
I will still have a play with the N96, just out of curiosty. I was up for getting that originally but the samsung won...
  • I guess it pleases the die hard nokia fan as it is so similar to the N95, in feel, menus, layout etc so it isn't a learning curve again. Found it quite easy to use. Decent sized keypad compared to N95, even though I have little fingers, pressing 2 buttons at once does happen, but this phone, not yet. Man sized! haha.
I dont think you will be dissapointed.
Plus if it means no nokia software errors.. peaceful 18mths

Is the Samsung a brick just like the N95.. heavy at all?
  • I would not call it a brick.
I guess some might, usually those who buy the thinnest, narrowest phone ever that you drop and never notice.
Even the N96 is slightly larger than the N95, albeit smoothed rounded corners.
It is heavy again compared to some, but thats how I personally like my phone to be. Not small, fiddly and annoying. Nicer to hold than the stupid iphone.

    N95 - 120g
    N96 - 125g
    N95 8Gb - 129g
    i8510 - 140g

Don't forget that if your N95 is less than 2 years old then it is still covered by the Nokia 2yr warranty. i know you want a different phone, but when you receive one dont forget to get the N95 repaired by Nokia( any nokia service centre will arrange this ) because you can then sell it/keep it as a spare etc/ just a thought.....

I have a nokia thats just less than 2 years old. and the direction key is broke would i be able to send it off to nokia

if so how do i go about doing it?

    Nick
  • Try this http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4222229
Where I looked yday. Found one only 3 miles from my home.
The guy said the 2 years FOC repair is only if phone has not been damaged by owner, ie, got wet, dropped etc... If it is software, like mine, then it is covered
  • I'm also in a dilemma like the OP. My contract with o2 online is coming to an end in October and I'm due for an upgrade, but it seems the only phone o2 are interested in pitching to their customers is the sub-par iPhone.

I've done some research and the only thing I can say is to leave the n96 well alone. It does seem like in terms of overall performance, the n85 phone wins over the n96 hands down.

On the other hand, where functionality is concerned and the size of the phone doesn't matter too much to you, then the i8510 (innov8) is an amazing phone.

It's probably unfair to compare the 2 phones like-for-like as they're in different price brackets, however the n85 (to be released this month) does seem to put up a good fight.

Have a think about it :D
