  • Just saw the Argos advert on TV tonight and they clearly said 20% of all Sat Nav till this Wednesday (the 7th I think). It did say it was 20% off the catalogue price but I was in Argos in Glasgow today (Braehead) and I'm nearly sure the Garmin I3 was in there for £159.99, it did say it was down from a previous price of £199.99.

It looks to me like you should get 20% off the £159.99 price which would make it less than £130. Am I just being too hopefull here?

i asked about this they said it was 20% of original price. £199 now down to £159
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

The website states that £159.99 is the unadjusted price, check the "additional information" box on the left-hand side of the screen, the TomTom one also states the same, not e the asterisk against the item price :)
  • So it looks like the £159.99 is the price that you should get 20% off, meaning the actual price paid would be just under £130?? I think you could argue that case.

I tried, the manager came through pointed out that on poster it stated 20% off original price.

  • If you look at the page on the Argos website for this item (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7400995/Trail/C%24cip%3D28884.DIY%2C%2Bgarden%2Band%2Bcar%3EC%24cip%3D31405.Satellite%2Bnavigation%2Band%2Balert%2Bsystems.htm) it has a wee * beside the price, when you look over at the side it indicates that this means, and I quote "Please note that this item has not been price reduced.".

When you go to https://www.argos.co.uk there is a link on the front page saying 20% off ALL sat nav systems. When you follow the link it takes you to a page with all the sat nav systems on it. Some have a red banner above them and it looks like they have had 20% taken off them. The Garmin i3 doesn't have this banner above it and as stated above it clearly says this item has not been price reduced. That to me means that the 20% discount must apply to this product at the £159.99 price, you should get it for £159.99 less the 20% discount!

Might pop into Argos tomorrow and argue my case. Anyone know what aspect the law I can quote to the manager if it looks like a case of false advertising?

Go to settings, language, voice language and choose from the list.
  • Got mine yesterday afternoon from Argos. Tried to argue the extra 20% but no luck! By the way mine came with the V 2.4 software so have updated with the V 2.7 available on the Garmin website. Think you will need to reload your POIs - Speed Camera Data again as it deletes the original software version B4 installing the updated 2.7 . . . . Pete
  • Just back from Argos extra. No joy with 20% discount I'm afraid! Took a print out of a few of the webpages with me and indicated to the manager that it stated the £159.99 price was not a reduced price. He countered by finding a "20% off all Sat Nav" leaflet that stated the discount was off the price in the winter 2005 catalogue. I returned that I wasn't interested in what was in the catalogue or on the leaflet just what was on the website. He loaded up the page on the Argos website and found a condition on the bottom of the 20% off Sat Nav page that says the discount is off the winter catalogue price. Sadly I felt that was check mate to him... Said I thought it was very misleading but didn't get any joy.

So that is that I think. Although, I did note that if you buy this item from Argos you are not able to bring it back under their 16 day money back deal, I wonder if they are thinking about bringing it down again.
