First-time house renovation

@maggie - love the videos. what did you use to take them - particularly the one driving up to the house. looked very clear.
The one of driving up to the house was using my camera - Canon PowerShot SX30 IS. It's the 3rd one I've had over the last couple of years! First one got a fault while still under warranty, but with the legal stuff over my parents' estates and the house stuff I never got round to claiming. So replaced it with the SX20 which a few months ago OH left on the front doorstep    where it was stolen surprise surprise. Honestly, men! (no offense to men on this group of course) So replaced it as wanted to have a working one for DD1's wedding last month. Needless to say I didn't take many photos (had to do the Mother of the Bride thing in my posh hat
), but took over 200 photos on the journey home! In fact the driving up to the house stuff was the first video I took with it. Very impressed by the image stabilisation.
Oh, here's my posh hat! Bit off topic, but it's going to be very useful as a garden hat as it has such a lovely broad brim.

I'm so sorry to hear you are having ongoing problems with your insurance and the house etc.Hope that you can get all sorted out without too much hassle. Hugs to you and Mrs LC.
Great that Little LC is doing so well and beginning to try to walk around the furniture. There was a little girl at the wedding who was just starting to walk free-form, she was running then falling down, laughing, getting up again and running off again. She was lovely. Won't be long for Little LC to get to that stage now I guess! The GrandTwins are desperately trying to crawl, but haven't quite got the hang of it yet! :rotfl:
Stolt, looking forward to seeing your finished bathroom with the coloured lights! Sounds positively 60s psychedelic!Though I know that it will be more tasteful than that of course.
Aliasojo, hope you find somewhere to live that you like soon. Shame you're not relocating to Liverpool, you could rent our house when we move!:rotfl:

better be careful wearing that in the garden - you might be swamped by bees and wasps :rotfl:0

Gorgeous hat Maggie! I remember seeing a photo of you in a hat, they suit you and this should look stunning
.
Staircase looking good too!0 -
evening everyone, spent all day using some colour intensifier stuff on the slate tiles in the downstairs toilet. Come out pretty good, massive headache from the fumes, but overall its come out really well, put some orchids in front of the mirror and ended up painting the ceiling again. j ust need the flooring sorted and a nice oak door.
Had a plasterer round to price up but before the guy that come round on friday, hes cheaper!!!!
ive got my girls into springwatch program and they are gradually enjoying watchign the wildlife in the garden..... the robins in the back garden have 5 healthy chicks that look really big and i reckon another week and they will be gone.. been feeding them food we bought some mealworms the other day to try to get them eating out of our hands. The robins at the front garden have had 4 chicks hatch and a few days old these are friendlier and seem to be able to approach them easier, nest is in ivy right ext tot he garage door but they dont seem to fussed with the girls on there bikes etcListen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -

I think the budget went a little crazy if i'm honest, bearing in mind its a downstairs toilet but its not something i'm going to be looking to change anytime soon!!!:DListen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
Well after a year of renovating the bathroom is coming together then we just need to decorate the rest of the house. Getting quite excited now!

Nice tiles!
Things are moving again for us too. Staircase man came and fitted the balustrade and hand rail on Saturday. Looks fantastic, glass really lets the light around the hallway and the oak handrail looks good. Photos to follow when I get time to take some.
Our Builder's van was stolen last week, so he hasn't been back as planned but hopes to get back sometime this week to finish off and put in glass panel by kitchen door (the one into the hall).
Took a couple of old bookcases over to house so can start sorting books here. Must join the decluttering thread!
Must decide which telephone and internet providers to use, and whether to just go for Freeview or maybe have Virgin for everything including TV. We don't seem to be very organised on arranging these things!0 -
@ukmaggie45 : I think you have the same internal doors we have just had fitted.
Were they from Howdens?
They are nice.0 -
Cloakroom looks good stolt!
Maggie, looking forward to completed staircase-- looks good from pics so far.
Dave, looks like your getting there...but i still beat ya on length of time on bathroom refurb - still not put flooring down in ours and it's been that long i need to redo sealant around shower tray that's sprung a leak this week.
Here i've been busy with the garden whenever i get a chance. Trimmed most of the shrubs in the back garden with hedge trimmer mother-in-law gave me...within 10 minutes i managed to chop straight through the cable..thank goodness for RCDs! Veggies are coming along well with all the rain we've been having lately.
On house front all i've done is put down new metal threshold strips in the doorways to the hall.
Baby is doing well ...will be 3 months old this week. His making lots of noises and much more active. He manages to roll onto his side though not managed to roll right over just yet. Night times are far easier now as he usually sleeps through until about 5:30am or later most nights.
My wife isn't too well unfortunately - pregnancy left her with gallstones and now she keeps having gallstone attacks. It's been going on a while now and a month or so ago before we knew what the prob was we even had an emergency ambulance out as symptoms were similar to those for a heart attack. She'd been to A&E a few times already by then but this time blood tests revealed raised liver function and they made referrals for ultrasound . By coincidence the doctor who dealt with her was the same person who admitted baby oliver to SCBU after he was born! She has an appointment at hospital to see a consultant in mid-July..the plan is to have her gallbladder removed by keyhole surgery which should hopefully be in July/August. Luckily we were given the option of treatment in the private patient part of the hospital but paid for by NHS so it should be a bit quicker than treatment by NHS themselves. Either way it means i'll be looking after baby whilst she recovers as well as whenever she has any gallstone attacks in the meantime.0
