  • We've got these doors. Or at least think we have because we bought on the offchance directly from store and they were something like £17 each. Which makes me think they aren't those ones but there's nothing else like that on website.

Not quite that one Jimmie - we had the York doors from Wickes. They're veneered doors which we have waxed with Osmo oil and are very happy with them.

Stolt Not sure if they still do this but last year when we bought our doors we picked up one of their Wickes Direct catalogues in store when we were out one day and it had a discount code which could be used when placing your first order. Quite generous - 15% or 20%, not sure now. So as we don't live near a Wickes and couldn't transport 11 doors ourselves, we ordered over the phone and got a good price. There is a packing charge for doors, but we didn't have to pay delivery as the order was over a certain amount. The packaging was impressive and considering how many doors and how far they had to come we were happy with the charge.
  • Someone else must have those B&Q doors like us. Tried looking through blogs but can't find!

are the wickes doors good quality TomsMom?

I saw oak veneer in a specialist door shop and they were double the price of wickes :/ plus we have £100 vouchers for Wickes as they have their loyalty card, we got loads of points for the kitchen.

    Plasterer coming tonight :)

    Kitchen delivered..came in 111 pieces :/

I had to ask TD about that as I don't know much about that, just know they look nice ;).

Anyway he would describe them as "reasonable" quality, he thinks they are a bit expensive for a veneered door. A couple had to have a bit cut off the bottom (for carpet) and they cut OK. TD says the inside of the door are a sort of chipboard type stuff - far better than some doors in a previous house we had which were a sort of corrugated cardboardy type stuff.

If you're not going to stay in your house forever, then I would say they will be fine providing you haven't got any stroppy pubescents who are likely to slam/kick doors (thinking of my middle grandson here - good job they've got solid pine doors in their house!). If you are going to stay there forever and everything else is tip top quality then I would say push the boat out and go for solid oak doors.

Seeing as this thread is quite active at the moment, can I ask you guys for your opinions please?

I'm really struggling with what to do in Bedroom 1 regarding wardrobes. First thought was to build in the natural alcove with either hinged or sliding doors (hadn't decided). I was thinking of possibly white/ivory so the whole of the wall would be virtually one colour. It's going to be quite expensive and I'm having trouble finding doors that I'm 100% happy with.

The alternative is to have two of the same wardrobes that we have in Bedroom 2. We can't have full length door wardrobes as we can't get them up the stairs, we have to have the sort with the drawer bottoms as it comes apart and we can just about then get the top bit up. Two of these would come to approximately £1,000 and will match the rest of the furniture in the room but there would be gaps all round, top and sides.

If you look at the before and after pictures here - scroll down to Bedrooms 1 & 2, you can see in Bedroom 1 (bottom left picture) what the original built in wardrobes were like, they've been removed and at the moment we have some old MFI pine ones (those with mirrored doors) we brought with us as a temporary solution (bottom right picture). I've got used to them being there but hated it at first, that's why I'm not sure if I want free standing oak or built in white to "disappear". The picture (bottom right) of Bedroom 2 shows the oak wardrobe and we'd need two of them. I'm not sure if I like the chunkiness of them.

I've been mulling this over for months and I really want to get it sorted fairly soon. I'd really appreciate any comments, thoughts, opinions. Ta guys.
