Cheers Jim, what model and wattage did you go for? Remote control thermostat too? Which one did you guys choose in the end?0
-
Because we got the cable (never again it was a pain!!) the wattage depends on our spacing. I think we'll end up with about 6cm so we'll get 165w per m2. We didn't need a lot of heat as it's a secondary heat source with the towel rail being in there too.
We also bought our insulation boards from there (Marmox ones). They weren't quite the cheapest but by the time you've got them from somewhere else and paid postage you'll probably end up paying more.
We have that themostate which lights up blue and has a remote control. We haven't actually turned it on yet. I think we will this week.
The only downside now is that because we have it upstairs we want to put it everywhere!! I think in the kitchen we'll get a water system instead.0 -
Completely agree about wanting it in other places, my parents have it at their home!
We will have a towel rail in their as well so just want it to take a chill of the tiles tbh. What do you mean 'got the cable'? As opposed to the matting?0 -
Yes, we just bought the loose cable because it had to go round the bath, sink and toilet we thought the matting wouldn't suit. We just found it really difficult to measure and work out the spacing and ended up doing it twice. Very time consuming!! I don't think we could've bought the mat for that particular room though.0

Ahhh, OK, thanks, it's not in the 'travertine' room then?! Our bathroom is small so the matt will do just find for where we stand. Does the thermostat on the wall look funny?!0

we are due to have the underfloor heating installed end of this week, (warmup) and wasnt sure whether to have the wire or the matting, all the tilers are saying unless the matting is latexd soon after it goes down, it tends to lift and cause a few problems when tiling. prefer the wire but it will take so much longer to install. the room is 41m2, initially it was sold that we wouldnt need any further heating in there other than the underfloor heating, thankfully we ignored them and have two rads installed aswell.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
The UFH is in the travertine room which is our bathroom. You have to imagine under the tiles are the joists, then a layer of ply, then the marmox boards, waterproofing (only needed for wetroom), the UFH wires and then tiles on top with adhesive.
If you look at this pictureyou can see where we've missed the bath area completely on the right hand side and there's a gap on the left where the sink will be. I think it's because you can't put the heating directly under anything which is going to be a fixture i.e. toilet, sink, bath.
I am sure if we got professionals in to do the UFH then it may have gone a bit smoother! As it was we didn't damage the cable (which is a big problem if you do) and it's all worked out ok0 -
Can't see the above pic on my work PC so will have a look when I get home. Glad that yours worked out fine and cheers for the link! Bookmarked!0

oh no - you just probably can't see the picture because it didn't work. Here's the blog post:

I didn't think they could be the same ones as yours which I loved but it turns out they are. What a bargain!! I'm quite tempted to ring up a bigger store (ours is quite small) and ask if the ones with glass in are on offer too as we'll be using those downstairs. What did you stain yours with to finish them?
I hope you manage to get the glass one cheap too! We havent actually finished them yet as Im not quite sure what to do. I love the colour they are so Im either going to varnish them or oil them I think.
latecomer - Great news on the progress! Im glad you and the builders are making progress! I wouldnt feel mean about holding payments back if they haven't got to the stage where more money is required! You don't want to pay them in advance and then be out of pocket if they go bust! Also its a good incentive for them to get on with it!
suisidevw - We got our from the http://www.ufwarehouse.co.uk/. We opted for the cable so we could go around the bath and loo. I think it cost us £100 for 2m2 including thermostat and underlay. The customer service is excellent! They have actual techy people who know what they are talking about!
We also bought carbon film UFH for the whole of downstairs and it is brilliant!
stolt - Thanks for the good luck! Going to need it! Im determined to do it though :-)0
