    Hiya,

I havent any house news but we are planning on having a skirting sticking party this evening ha ha! Ive bribed all my friends with snacks and beer! Got to get it done and painted as the carpets are coming on Tuesday :D I cannot wait!

xs11ax - Hello and welcome! Youre plastering quote seems pretty good to me! We had our whole house plastered and boarded so Im not sure how much they would have charged per room.

When we knocked all the plaster off our walls I found the same around the windows so filled them in with expanding foam! Its great stuff but not if you get it in your hair!

Maggie - You piccys of the house and garden look fab! The garden is lovely and the view is even better! I wish I had a view!

On the subject of council tax I got 12 months free. A lady from the council came round and scored my house on the work that was being done, as I was basically pulling it apart I managed to get the full 12 months! Having to pay it again now though :-(

Andrew - Congratulations on becoming a husband! Im glad your big day went well, cant wait to see some piccys!

Wallbash - Keep the piccys coming! They are good insprational motivators!

TomsMom - Im so glad everything is going well with TD! I bet he is very relieved and no more chemo whoo!

Jimbugalee - That will be fab having your fire in by Christmas! I was looking through Ideal Homes christmas mag last night and got all excited! I cant wait to decorate the tree with the fire on and christmas songs playing!

latecomer - Hooray for the warrant! I have part of my notice signed off just the electrics to go!

Jamtart - I know how you feel about the dust! Its never ending! Were planning on getting the rest of the decorating done this weekend then hopefully when the carpets go down that will be it for dust!
Sorry about the trouble you are having with the building inspector! I hope you can get it sorted asap!

Littlerose - Just had a look at your blog! It looks fab! Doesnt skirting make such a difference! Weve got some wooden flooring to finish downstairs and will have the same problem with the bullnose on the bottom step. I think Stuart is going to cut a piece off the bottom and slide the flooring underneath! Not sure how thats going to go?!

    See you soon

Thank you :) Skirting is the best! You're right, it does make such a difference!

We decided to lay the flooring up to the stairs and bullnose and we're going to add some beading. It's only a small part so hopefully should look ok. We cut underneath the doorframes to slide the flooring underneath.. now that was a pain and very fiddly but well worth it in the end and looks so much neater!

Skirting board party sounds like a great idea!

    Wrecked the house .
Time to start putting it back together.
Dug the foundations , 3 ft deeper than the orig :rotfl:
Ready mix dumped into living room then wheel burrowed to the rear

Employed two brickies , my brick laying is far too slow.extention1.jpg

Roof was replaced ( by a pro ) at the same time

    extention3.jpg

Saved money by acting as labourer to brickies and roofer.

Aimed to be fairly  weather proof before the onset of winter.
But had problems with hardwood windows .

Just learned a very good lesson - dont let FIL wash out the tile adhesive buckets in the kitchen sink. I noticed it had been draining a little slow recently but tonight it just about stopped completely. Washing machine was going at the time so I had visions of things going badly wrong as its outlet joins above the U-bend. Anyway couldn't find the plunger so decided to empty the cupboard under the sink and take the bend off. It fell into the bucket with a little water. Couldn't see anthing in the pipe so was worried about further down the pipe. Put the u-bend back on the water drains perfectly. Confused but relieved I got to empty the bucket and in the corner I find a lump of set tile adhesive in the shape of a u-bend. Must have been blocking about half the pipe! Obviously it must have moved off the bottom of the bend and caused the obstruction.

Also been putting on some more of the skirting boards with only 3 small sections to do. Will try and get them done over the next couple of days. Also constructed our new coal bunker for the stove - got rained off about 3 times due to showers but got there in the end. Will get some pics up soon.

Builders made some good progress at the end of the week but will need to get cracking if they are to get the roof on within the next 2 weeks. In fact I suspect that might take a minor (or maybe not so minor!) miracle...... will need to wait and see I guess :)

Am not up to date so dont know if shed is a 'shed' shed or a living extension type shed....but if it's a shed shed, you'd be better getting a cheapo offcut of lino from any of the carpet stores. Much more practical and will last longer.

Hope you dont mind me saying. :o

Ooh don't mind at all :D We will however be going to the carpet shop of Mum and Dad to see what they have in stock :D so I think there is some lino in their pile :)

We bought laminate for the bathroom and are now umming and ahhing whether to go for it or just get carpet, so mr jt said "we could put the laminate in the shed" 80 quid flooring in the shed, I think not! :rotfl:

So how's everyone doing? We're still plodding on with our purchase, hope to meet the vendor in a couple of weeks (she's working Sunday to Sunday so won't be up before then) so we can ask about what the trees in the garden are etc etc.

Hope TomsMum managed to get to see TomsDad last weekend, and that all is going well.

LittleRose, your hallway looks fantastic. :j

Andy, congrats on your big day - when are you going to get some photos up for us to have a good nosey? :D

We're trying to decide what order things will need doing when we finally get into the house (assuming we do - surveyor says we are his best customers in the last 5 years  ). Needs some damp proofing, want to put french windows or similar into back living room, electrics need doing, kitchen needs gutting (now that's something we can prob do ourselves), and I guess we'll need to get an architect in - how do you find one of them? Scary stuff to me! :o
