Glad to hear you're all still working hard and well done to those gaining planning permission :) Our extension is still going on, we are now into week 13 and I'm fed up of dust and shopping at DIY stores! Well I'm really hoping we are into the final weeks - then the real work of decorating can start, anyway for those interested check out our blog

Josepina - your boiler looks very like ours, is it a Vaillant? Monsters aren't they? Ours is tucked into the corner on the short wall in the utility so it's out of the way. We're very pleased with it and it's nice and quiet. We had a bit of a problem trying to understand how to override the timer if you want the heating on for an hour or so when it's programmed to be off, but we've sussed it now. The instruction booklet could be a bit more detailed where that's concerned  .

Good morning: The house is looking good...in the home stretch now;) Just out of interest, what controls do you have for the boiler: the OH has given up on the Vaillant programmable roomstats as many customers find them a bit complex (and some of Vaillant's literature seems to be badly translated from German:eek:). He is installing user friendly Honeywell now.

I wonder what controls other members of the thread are using for their new central heating systems and how are they getting on with them?

We are about to get a WorcesterBosch (sp?!) Greenstar 42 CDI boiler with some wireless themostatic controls ... not sure which ones will check.

I think I have a Valliant boiler and Honeywell control at my flat and I have no problems :)

    Hi Canucklehead

I don't think we've got anything fancy, but then again I don't really know what I'm talking about when it comes to this sort of thing :rotfl: . All I know is that we have an EcoTec something boiler - can't find the paperwork for the actual boiler at the moment so not sure of the model number, and a Vaillant Timeswitch 140. We have Boss TRVs on each radiator except the one in the en-suite which doesn't have one - doesn't one rad have to be fully open when the heating is on????????? I seem to remember that from our last house and we chose the one in the bathroom as it was a very cold room.

Chap who installed the timeswitch a couple of weeks ago (not the original chap who installed the boiler, he couldn't fit us in so recommended someone else) doesn't normally fit Vaillants, he prefers Worcester Bosch. He thought the timeswitch was a bit too much of an overkill as you can have Party Function and Holiday Function - useful for some people I suppose - and you can have different timings for different days of the week.

We know how to set it for on/off times for heating and now know how to turn it on if you just want a bit of a heat boost if it goes cold and the heating is off. We used to have a button for heating to come on for one hour on our other one and found it quite useful.

It seems very efficient and kept us very warm during the recent cold spell with the TRVs set on just 2 (5 maximum). We have a shower off the boiler too which I'm very impressed with, much more powerful than the Triton 9.5kw electric one in the old house. All in all we are very happy with it.

Hi...your Vaillant has a built-in bypass so the only rad that shouldn't have a TRV is the one located in the same area/room as your room thermostat. The Ecotec is a fine boiler and if installed to manufacturer's specifications it should give you many years service (just make sure it has an annual service to keep the warranty going). The OH hasn't used the Timeswitch 140 but it does have some sosphisticated functions.

Well my day at the beach yesterday was well and truly made up for today! While I waited for the tile delivery, I started cleaning floors, dust flew everywhere, scraped plaster etc up and ended up getting it all into piles and then shoveling into bags. The tile delivery turned up and guy said he couldnt bring them in as the front path was too rough and they might fall off his trolly and break. So i told him to put them on the driveway, which he did - carrying them box by box (why couldnt he bring them in?) so my 69 year old mother ended up helping me then carry them into the bungalow, while he watched.......
I also had to carry 2 large tubs of adhesive and 2 bags of grout.
After a healthy lunch of salad, then went to topps tiles to get 4 black quarry tiles, onto homebase for new broom and mop, followed by a trip to wickes for 2 large tubs of emulsion (more heavy lifting).
After phone call from DD3 asking whats for dinner, I think I have earnt chocolate :rotfl:

BB, where did you get your house number? We need a new one as i have plans for some trellis and climatis where the existing number is which is just 2 numbers screwed to the wall. I really like your one (the picture i mean as it is very seasidey and we live very near the seaside!...your number would just be wrong on our house lol). Door looks good..make sure you get all your paperwork and insurance backed guarantees though!

They are sold in the Poole Pottery shop, but coincidentally we had also seen them on ebay - they're made locally and sent by mail order or via ebay.
Here's the link to the ebay listing.
